hmm.. i'm guessing you don't have any 3rd party software that can help you with your dual boot system.

ok FAT16 is basically the File Allocation Table structure used by DOS and Win95. FAT32 for Win98 and the later version of win95.
if you're trying to dual boot Win98 and WinNT4, u have to install Win98 on a FAT16 before installing WinNT
if you're trying to dual boot Win98 and Win2k/WinXP, u can use FAT32 but again, you have to install Win98 first. Installing Win98 when your WinXP is already installed is possible but a little tricky.

by the way, what Operating systems are you going to use in your dual boot config?
co'z if you want to have a Win95 or Win98 because you have an application that "doesn't" run on XP, maybe the XP's Compatibility mode feature can handle it.

as already suggested in the previous posts,
1. Boot using a Win98 bootable disk and use fdisk to remove all existing partitions of your HDD.
2. You have to reboot for the changes to take effect.
3. Boot from your Win98 floppy disk again and run fdisk.
4. Create a primary partition for your Win98 and set it "Active"
5. Install Win98 using your Win98 CD.

6. After installing Win98, restart and proceed with WinXP installation using your bootable XP CD.
7. During installation, create another partition using the remaining unused space of your HDD.
8. Finish the XP installation.
- Done.

Note: if you make your D drive NTFS partition, you won't be able access that drive when you're using Win98 so make sure it's less than 32GB to be able to create a FAT32 partition.

if you install win98 use the start-up by using floppy drivre din with cdroom support and run win98 setup!

dugay-dugay pa gyod diay ma obsolete ang floppy drive? gamit paman ang diskette. i-suggest balhin na sa CD (boot) mas barato pa, mas lig-on, mas dali mo load.

pwede pud using CDROM.... pero ang tendency with Win98 kay dali ma overlook ang partitioning sa HDD. kasagaran mahurot ang space sa Win98 ra. Di pareha sa WinXP na klaro jud imo choice sa partition. another thing is that i don't remember if there's a fdisk.exe utility in Windows98 bootable cdrom. you can check it if you want. sa win98 era... uso man ang diskette and since you're using the technology of the past... gamit jud ang floppy.

akong win98 CD customized man, unattended install. hasta akong win95 boot, dos6 boot, all naka CD. hasta ang seagate disc wizard naka CD (paspas kaayo ang pag format sa seagate HDD). dugay-dugay na gyod wala nako naka gamit ug diskette. hasta ang winxp customized gihapon, unattended na. daghan naman kahibalo ani.

ah yeah... i have my own customized bootable CDs and DVDs... mga OS with service pack and hotfixes na. giapilan pud nako mga software ug utilities. kapoy lang usahay update kay for Xp.. almost every month naay ma release na updates. daghan najud kabalo co'z the procedures to create those are already in the net. anyway, medyo O.T. na ni so.... *swoosh*... adios...
