U.P. High School Cebu under threat of closure!

UP is a school and not a money generating establishment. the college is serving it's purpose very well, not only in producing competent graduates but also in research as well. UP professors are even tapped by the government and private firms regularly for researches.

when i was still in UP way back, one of my professors have mentioned that the lot occupied by the people at camputhaw is a UP lot, even those at the back of the dorm. we might consider first on getting rid of these squatters rather than closing UP down, that is a big piece of land.

in regard to UP professors, dli lang kay tapped by the government but by other asian countries sad. dghan professors nga apil sa mga top people sa Asia.

and it wouldn't stop from there... ila pud na ishare sa sa ilang mga students... Higschool and college students.

that is the precise reason why politicians are eyeing this highly valuable commercial lot. yes, UP Cebu is serving its purpose but not to its full potential like other UP campuses in the country.

that's why sonny o. back then said that if UP cannot offer courses like in Manila and IloIlo among others, the local government might as well take back the lot.

if the local government has the power to even have the armed forces facility moved, much more just a school campus and that's reality and that's a fact.

for UP alumni here, without biases and denial, do you really think UP Cebu is functioning to its full potential nor offering courses that it should? no offense but personally, i don't think so.

i say modernize the facilities of UP!!!! I'm tired of government officials putting money into their own pockets!

if courses are the issue, then why not give the lot occupied by the squatters back to UP so it could expand by creating more buildings? compare the area occupied by UPCC to other UP campuses. we could not expect a lot of courses from a school which is smaller than a standard football field.

i still believe there's no point in closing down anything if not MUCH has been done to at least salvage it. Trashing an institution like UP Cebu down that EASILY, only shows our retrogressive regard for almost any aspect of our country that needs improvement. We are talking about the future of young Pinoys who cannot afford a good education due to the ever rising tuition charged by private schools for example, and the meager budget for education afforded by the Government. Let's face it, UP Cebu has indeed produced some personalities who have done their share in society considering it's scarce resources.

Lytslyper, you talk about Education as if it is a BUSINESS. You close it down the minute it eats your bottomline. You should be ashamed of yourself.

how dare they threaten to close it down when it's their responsibility to upgrade it in the the first place. where are the people's taxes going? Again, I say put up more UP high schools!

let's put it in a politician's POV. full potential means making more money for the "government". and by government, i mean their own personal source of funds. this is nothing new. would you dare risk the welfare of the students, which most can't afford to go to other good schools? UP has a lot of brilliant minds with empty pockets. that's what UP is for, to provide quality education especially for the marginalized, not an income generating establishment.

USC itself isn't serving in it's full potential in other ways and whether it's private or not, based on the context that UP should be shut down since it's not maximizing it's full potential, then we should do the same to USC and other schools who are not performing in the level that they're expected, err, in their full potential. is it a good ground for closing it down? i don't think so. hence, since UP still serves it's purpose well, it should stay.

this led me to thinking, should we close UP down or get rid of those squatters first? i believe those sqautters aren't fulfilling their duties to their "full potential". why look at something that could still be salvaged and serves a good purpose when there are a lot of garbage to deal with?
