    Smile Windows 7 Ultimate Beta

You will no longer fear spending your savings for newer hardware to run Windows 7 as the upcoming OS is lighter and doesn’t require hefty hardware like Vista. Windows 7 Chief Steve Sinofsky held up his “personal” laptop during the demo. It was running Windows 7 flawlessly on a 1 GHz processor netbook (probably using a VIA processor) with only 1 GB of RAM. It was running very smoothly, with over half the RAM free to use. However, don’t be mislead by believing that the OS is underpowered because Microsoft is equally emphasizing power, with support for up to 256 CPUs.

Microsoft’s claims that 7 ran well on a Lenovo S10 netbook, Joanna Stern at Laptop Mag stuck the OS on an EeePC 1000H and *shazam*... it installed. Well, not only did it install but it seems like it actually runs quite well under the future OS. As it happens, 7 is a bit lighter than Vista, sucking up just under 512MB of RAM for itself – and never mind Joanna installing some XP drivers to get it going (you can read a bit into that, actually). The Vista feel is there, but there are a few new features that benefit UMPCs to a point, like the new and improved Network Manager. She was comfortable enough to use it but not to keep it right now. It is, after all, a pre-Beta (with an expiry date most likely).

it's the successor to vista. due for end of next year.
Windows 7 Beta 1 is for release this December.

Windows 7 Milestone 3 build 6926 and build 6933 were shown off at the Professional Developer's Conference last month but only Milestone 3 build 6801 was released to developers...hence the 6801's existence at torrents.

sorry wala na koy links to support my first 2 paragraphs but i'm sure you'll bump into them in slashdot, wired, anandtech, etc.

*edit* just got home and fired up 6801...
