Rollback good for P0.50 fare adjustment - INQUIRER.net, Philippine News for Filipinos

    Cebu Daily News
    First Posted 10:22:00 10/31/2008

THE P5 a liter to P6 a liter rollbacks for diesel (See separate story on page 11) is enough to have a .50 centavo cut in public utility jeepney fares in Cebu, said a transport leader in Cebu.

"Based on this oil price rollback, we can only afford a 50 centavos fare rollback", said Ryan Benjamin Yu, vice chairman of the Cebu Integrated Transport Service Cooperative Inc. (Citrasco).

If granted, the minimum fare will be adjusted to to P7.50 from P8.

Yu, however, said that he had yet to meet Citrasco members and discuss the issue.

Yu said that a P2 fare adjustment is not possible because the price of diesel was still higher compared to the time when the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) granted the P6 minimum fare.

The price of diesel then was P28 per liter.

He said that when the group filed for a P1.50 fare hike last November the price of diesel was already P38 a liter.

The price cut yesterday which cut the price of diesel to P41 a liter was still not enough because it was still at the P41 a liter level, Yu said.

WTF .50 ra!! nya ig plete nato dili nata suklian sa .50 tabla ra 8 gihapon!!!!

If mu taas ang oil prices internationally, in an instant the local oil companies mg increase dayon sa prices. Pero if mu decline and price sa international crude, it take weeks or even months before mag roll back. It's not the transpo section that's giving us a problem but the oil companies. Just my opinion regarding the matter.

Only in the Philippines, real estate, daily commodities and gas prices doesn't go back down even the worldwide market already has.

In where I am at, gas prices used to be $5 a gallon, now it's just $2.72
