in my honest opinion, if we submit to ethnic, religious or national identifications we as a specie will never move on, evolve and achieve serenity.

The great library of Alexandria, all those people who poured their heart and soul to the investigation of our universe were amount to nothing, the library was burned to the ground! Fanaticism and ignorance destroyed the world's greatest repository of knowledge. The "thousand years of darkness", and i think humanity had to start from scratch.

    ^^it started with the crusades...

it did not start with the crusade at all. Violence was already there even before that ... but it suffices to say that misguided religious fervor, here commonly called, "fundamentalism", whether muslim, hindu or christian(catholic or protestant), it is always a bane in an otherwise civilized society. We can never understand the extent of the wars going on in the name of religion, but I think in each of these religions, there are common ideals and we can start from there to pursue and create a peaceful and secure world.
