Even before the First Crusade, Muslim troops had already been attacking Christian communities and kingdoms. The Seljukian Turks threatened Christian pilgrims, and the Byzantine Empire. This had been going on for decades. Then the Muslim armies invaded the Christian kingdoms in the Holy Land. They conquered Jerusalem and Antioch, Syria and Asia Minor.

Both sides, as was common in those times, engaged in atrocities and even fought among each other. But this does not change the fact that the Crusades were brought about because of Muslim aggression.

let me just share what i also read.

The Crusaders were brought becuase the Byzantine empire asked for help.

Even before muslims invaded these Teritorries christians were already invading lands that doesnt belong to them, even lands owned by other christians.

The muslims started invading these teritorries becuase the Ghassanians who was protected by the Byzantine killed a muslim diplomat. The muslim reacted by sending a troop, since the Byzantine was the protector of the Ghassanians entered into a de facto state of war with Muslims. Once the Byzantine Empire entered into warfare against Muslims, then it follows that they would engage in warfare with all of the Byzantine Empire and not just particular regions. That inlcudes Syria, Egypt, and North Africa (along with Constantinople, Alexandria, Antioch, and Jerusalem) since these region were part of the Byzantine empire.

The entire Empire was open to being attacked. For example, when the USS Maine was blown up by the Spanish, triggering the Spanish-American War, the United States didn’t merely stick to attacking the Spanish mainland (which it never did) but attacked its protectorates all over the world, such as the Philippines, Guam, Cuba, and Puerto Rico.

karun naglisod naman ang Byzantine empire kay nakadaug man ang muslim so they asked for help so The Pope sent the Crusaders. Its wrong to say nga defensive in nature ang campaign sa crusaders. It was a retaliation and a political one.

    More from what i read...

Spain was invaded by the Muslims of North Africa on similar grounds: the rape of an Arab woman. The Moors invaded Spain in 712 A.D. “after its rough king, Rodrigo, had seen an Arab beauty named Florinda bathing naked in the Tagus and raped her. This outrage brought the African hordes north across the Strait of Gibraltar in a fury of vengeance. The Jews of the City, who had long suffered persecution under the Goths, had opened the city’s gates for the invaders and were rewarded for their heroics by the Moors. After his defeat, a woebegone Rodrigo had lamented, in self-pity and self-absolution, that “I’ve given away my kingdom for a cava.” Cava in Arabic means “whore.”” (p 62 of “The Dogs of God: Columbus, the Inquisitions, and the Defeat of the Moors” by James Reston, Jr.) India was invaded after similar abuses to Muslim women. Assuming that these were wars of aggression, there were plenty of territories that Muslims came to terms with and never invaded or subjected to Jizyah such as Abyssinia, China, and the Turkic lands. If one scrutinizes historical sources in an objective manner, the warfare conducted by Muslim states had some legal basis to it and if it was aggressive, it wasn’t any more so than the other cultures of the world.

"...[D]eceptive emails often take the quote out of context to suggest Sen. Obama would side with Muslim extremists or is himself a Muslim. The full quote, from The Audacity of Hope:

'Of course, not all my conversations in immigrant communities follow this easy pattern. In the wake of 9/11, my meetings with Arab and Pakistani Americans, for example, have a more urgent quality, for the stories of detentions and FBI questioning and hard stares from neighbors have shaken their sense of security and belonging. They have been reminded that the history of immigration in this country has a dark underbelly; they need specific assurances that their citizenship really means something, that America has learned the right lessons from the Japanese internments during World War II, and that I will stand with them should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.'"

hehehe i guess you're abit OT na...
The topic really is about an account of an american soldier of his iraq experience...
And that he described many of their action as terroristic... hence the title "We Were Told We Were Fighting Terrorists; the Real Terrorist Was Me"...

Well for me, whatever is your affiliation, whichever group you belong or religion, you may be a christian, muslim, buddhist, a cebuano an ilonggo, ilokano, Maranao, Tausug, puti ka, brown or itom ka, iraqi, indian, amerikano ka... as long as you sow terror to the innocents! terrorista ka!
Like the account of this american soldier, they wreck havoc and terror on iraqi civilians, women and children...

I did agree with the iraq war, What really made the iraqi war failed was US and it's allies got No Post War plan or whatsover... Yes many iraqis rejoiced when Saddam regime was toppled! but US failed them! kay right after the war Walay makaon ug mainom nga mga iraqi! Walay tabang nangabot!... Actually US was a victim of it's "Shock and Awe" strategy! hehehe, Na-shock and Awe sad sila kay wala man nisukol ang Iraq, after matumba nila ang statwa ni Saddam Wala jud intawn silay idea kung mag-unsa sila... Nag-tanga ra US atu... Ang tabang months pa bag-o nangabot ug in small amounts pajud... Mao tension raised even from the Pro War nga iraqi sector... Right there and then their impression of the US changed from Saviour to Invader! and thus it was later termed as the US Invasion of Iraq! And who can blame this people to fight back when their situation during Saddam time was "Bad" but it became "Worst" when the Americans Arrived!? It would have been different kung US and it's allies did a careful study for Post War Iraq... They should have showered iraqi civilians with humanitarian supplies to ease at least the pain and suffering they've experience from Saddam and the War...
well, since Iraq situation is becoming worst, the impression of US Redemption melted... it became Invasion and nothing but F!*&^% Invasion... Daghan na nuon iraqi would give their lives as Suicide Bomber! and US retaliated with their own terroristic acts, like what this US soldier shared to us...

ang religion wa man jud nay labot. gigamit lang ang religion para mahimong maskara nila. sa panahon gud sa pag abot diri sa kastila, dili ba ang religion ila gigamit para ma ilog ang pinas.

sa muslim ug christians, polos ta sayop. ato ra mga kaugalingon ang ma blame why sige ug gubat. kay kita man mismo ang nghimu sa gubat. if we just try to look unto ourselves and think many times, i hope makarealise ta sa ato mga sayop.

    peace ya all!...

"peace dont exist coz man is destructive by nature"

That is why we need to separate Religion from the State because religion is dangerous. That is the probably the reason why it is difficult for any sitting government to bring peace to Mindanao because the government is full of clouts from the Roman Catholic churches. We could have been better off if we have attitude like the UK where the religion is at the sideline.

In my case, I am a Christian but everytime I pass through the Mactan Airport I always see that idol of some saints from the Catholic church. That pisses me off so just imagine what the Filipino Muslim people would feel when they pass by that airport. You got Catholic chapel but no Christians or Muslims places for worship. Is that fair? It feels like the Catholic church are terrorizing us.

That is the big point why in the US and other modern countries, the separation of the State and Religion is an important part in their constitution and absolutely observed. If you have been to Saudi, man, you will understand what I'm talking.

Sorry dudes, I just realized I am very OT. But I just want to share my thoughts anyway.

Actually, it's the state that;s dangerous. That is why there is separation Church and state: to keep the state from controlling religion and using it for its own ends.

By the way, saints aren't idols. We all know that. Please try not to display your religious bigotry here.

Well, sorry if I offended you man, but it is what it is: religion is dangerous. It is like wine, when drank moderately it sooths and lightens you up. But if you get drank with it will take the demon out of you.

I disagree. It is the state that is dangerous. Religion is good. Its MISUSE is bad.
