First point to consider. The current firearms law (which was amended recently to include airsoft units, categorized under "low-power airguns") with its IRR, states that the maximum legal FPS for an airsoft rifle is 550 FPS using 0.20g BB's. If you plan to register your gun with FED, then you cannot have it registered if it goes over 550 FPS.

Second point, I believe there is no "stock" unit, whether "high end" like Tokyo Marui, or "low-end" like Jing Gong, that can reach 600 FPS as is (i.e. "fresh out of the box"). The average out of the box FPS for a Tokyo Marui unit is just around 300-350 FPS (M4A1 type), while nowadays, owing to pre-upgraded internals and newer factory gearbox modifications, Jing Gong units (made in China) reach from 400-450 FPS out of the box. The reason behind the low FPS of Tokyo Marui units is that, in Japan, they have a law that states that only 1-Joule (energy of BB impact) is allowed for airsoft units. 1-Joule corresponds to roughly about 340 FPS using a 0.20g BB.

Third point. All stock airsoft units, regardless if it's high end or low end, can indeed be made to fire 0.20g BB's in excess of 600 FPS, but this entails a lot of internal/gear box modifications and a skillful AEG gunsmith. The issue being solved here is proper sealing, and allowing more air to be compressed to propel the released BB faster, which can be achieved by the following:

    a) changing of cylinder interior diameter (bore-up)
    b) stiffer spring
    c) Torque-up gear set
    d) more efficient motor
    e) high-end (i.e. Systema) sealing components, air nozzle, hop-up chamber and packing rubber
    f) tight and long barrel (6.03)
    e) high mAH (not voltage) battery

If you do all of the above changes (in the hands of a very experienced gunsmith), any airsoft unit, save for those with barrels shorter than a standard M4A1, can attain FPS of over 500 and can even reach 600 in the right conditions.

Actually bay, naay gamit ang over 450FPS nga weapons--pag sniper ang imong role. In a disciplined airsoft environment and game, a designated marksman or sniper never assumes an assault role--igo ra cya mag pondo sa usa ka area and wait for the enemy to appear. Now, his weapon is usually a semi-automatic or bolt-action sniper rifle.

For accuracy and long range power, he needs the FPS to be quite high, and his BB weight to be slightly heavier than 0.20. So most airsoft snipers use 0.30g or even 0.43g BB, which means that his sniper rifle's FPS of over 600FPS, is now lowered to a more sober FPS of about 500, kay mas bug-at man ang bala. Then you will ask, nganong mas bug-at man sad ang gamiton? Kay the heavier the BB, the less likely it will be affected by wind when it's flying, simulating the real action of a sniper bullet.

Yes. I have lots of "bloody photos" in my collection (Hint: sa YouTube, you can even find a video of someone who got hit at point blank, in his scalp...various surgical tweezers were needed to pull the BB out of his scalp), but I won't show them here for one good reason--most of these cases were purely acts of irresponsibility--posting them here could give the wrong impression that this is indeed a sport for the reckless. This is not a sport/hobby/activity for the non-disciplined person. You have to treat your unit like a real weapon, otherwise you could get seriously hurt, or you could hurt someone else.

Accidents happen in any sporting activity, so airsoft is no exception. But they are just that--accidents.

You are welcome. Actually, it's not that dangerous if you are just a disciplined person. In fact, I can even say that, if dili ka kaayo disiplinado nga tawo, involving yourself in airsoft, and playing with mature and responsible hobbyists and players will teach you how to become disciplined.

Unya, naa pod theory nga it's better to expose young kids to firearms and teach them the history, nature and proper use/safety procedures of firearms while still young, para dili sila ma-ignorante when they grow up. However, I am against letting kids play with airsoft units, simply because the AEG box/container always states as a rule, that the user must be "above 18 years old" to use the unit. However, it's not a bad idea to let kids hold it and see it and feel it with your adult supervision--but letting them actually play with an AEG on a gamesite with adults, for me is not a good idea.

If ganahan ka snipe-snipe lang, actually there are low-powered, bolt-action sniper rifles (BASR) out there, and they are quite cheap. It doesn't require batteries, kay bolt-action ra man--you introduce spring tension by pulling the bolt. Dili pod kalas sa bala kay single shot ra man.
