ok things to consider. what is your kid's lifetsyle? outdoor type of kid? laid back? loud? etc.

PUG!!!!!

good temperament, playful, low maintenance, very good with kids, small but can handle rough play.

i wouldn't recommend a chow coz of there temperament, not a chihuahua coz most chi's dont like kids, shihtzu is ok but you have to consider the maintenance of the coat.labs are als nice and very friendly but you have to consider the size of the dog.
