^ OT: What were his views about religion, or Christianity in general?
OT: From what I've seen in that particular episode, his satires are nothing but empty takes on religion. If he has nothing substantial to say about religion, then he probably shouldn't be taken seriously. I guess he really shouldn't be taken seriously because in the first place he's a comedian. But I think some comedians may have something substantial to say, so I could be wrong.

^ Bro, I'm simply trying to engage in a dialogue here. Why do you assume I'm "hopeless"?
OT: Why can't you defend that person whom you apparently admire?

this is a good dialogue. ('c',) look on the bright side, we're only trying to make a good conversation here. we don't have to agree on everything to keep a good conversation, right? we may disagree on certain issues, but we can still keep our ethics, right? you, being a good catholic; and me, being a not-so-good catholic, how about that?
firstly, i do not assume you are hopeless. after all, you are a good catholic and so you've got lots of hope and faith and all the works in the church. by my saying, "there may be hope in you after all," i meant that there may be a slim chance that you could view the church not as the "holier-than-thou" of all religions.
secondly, i do not admire the guy. but i admire what he said.
('c',)
You're right. It's just that I somehow had the impression that you replied in a somewhat offhand way.
No, I wouldn't say I'm a good Catholic, either.
I am also aware that the Church is not perfect, bro. I mean, I think we all know that. There are many sinners and hypocrites among Catholics, too.
OT: I Googled George Carlin a bit. I read this short article of his about his view on religion. He has some valid arguments against religion, like the problem of evil for example. I guess the problem of evil is one of the most serious arguments against God's existence and it deserves to be explored further as an issue. But his language is just very offensive. I think he has a very childish view about God: "an invisible man in the sky." I mean, he can argue intelligently without resorting to insults and vulgar language. But I guess that's just part of his style, to be provocative, because what's provocative catches attention and sells.
ako naa ko new mantra...share lang ko ha..."God please protect me from your followers"....
-om shanti-
