    Default Zen

    Hello,

I'm interested in learning Zen meditation. Where can I learn it here in Cebu?

    Thanks!

Bai, not sure but i think Zen meditation can be taught in one of Cebu's Taoist temples. I'm currently interested on the cultures and tradition on Taoism, Zen is also present on the chinese cultures and religions. And Buddhism and Taoism is also link to Zen meditation.
Let me know if i'm right, coz i'm also planning to meditate

Hmmm Zen... let me define it in my own words - though I'm not a member of any philosophy but it looks interesting to know stuff like, Zen. Also one way to think of zen is this: a total state of focus that incorporates a total togetherness of body and mind. Zen is a way of being. It also is a state of mind. Zen involves dropping illusion and seeing things without distortion created by your own thoughts.

"Sun is warm, grass is green."

Tama ba? You guys correct me if I'm wrong... I'm not too familiar with it.

the local Phu Sian temple in beverly hills is a Zen tradition of Chinese Buddhism. You can communicate with them if you wish, go there during Tuesdays or Wednesdays(the monks are good though they don't speak english, but there's this chinese guy who understands english though he is particularly strict.).

But before you go to Phu Sian temple, please visit Samtabhadra Institute in Banilad. Ask them that you are interested in Zen or particularly Chen Meditation - Buddhism(chen is zen's chinese counterpart.) If you wish to learn more of meditative techniques to raise your level of consciousness, contact me 09159803128.

I am familiar with Buddhism particularly the Therevada, and Mahayana buddhist schools as I am studying them. Zen is considered to be under the Mahayana Buddhist Tradition.

I'm curious, does Zen meditation helps you focus your mind?

I can juggle several things at once, but sometimes I juggle too much and causes me to procrastinate...

    Sayang bai, wa ta nag-abot...
We created a Zen group four years ago
mga kauban namo...Psychologists, Psychiatrists in Cebu
Swiss priests from Redemp, some Parishioniers from redemp
and mga gikan sa mga various medical fields..nurses and medreps
    We practiced "Zen in Christianity"
and we "sit in" minsan sa Cebu Doc, sa simbahan, sa Hospitallier sa may NorthGen
and even sa VMMC at Waterfront Hotel or sa bahay ng isang member
Our former Zen master was from Manila. He visits us to give some teachings on Zen.
Unfortunately when, our founder, Dra.Imee transferred to Manila
    our group eventually dissolved. (sad....)
Anyways, meron namang natira jan na peeps who are still interested in Zen Meditation.
I still practice Zen meditation once a week...every Tuesdays
(kase I do other different med techniques in a week but regularly)
If you're really interested, maybe i'll try to contact ung mga dating practitioners
in time for the CPS grand EB...so you could guys meet up set up a med grp or sumthing...
I can also provide books and manuals about Zen so your group will have a guide.
Yun din ang mga resource materials na pinaaral sa amen ng Zen master namen before.
I'm outside Cebu na kase, so when I go to cebu this October, at least may nabring ako ppl
    with the same interests....

Zen helped me in shutting up my internal dialogue
One has to be really still kase so that one can listen to God or to the Higher self
May certain meditation poses pero you can find one suitable and comfortable to you
And it is half-eye open...to differentiate sa ibang meditation na open eye (like Brahma Kumaris)
and sa iba pang close-eyed meditation like Twin Hearts
at first, lisod siya kay tanan nga pent up emotions, thoughts and issues kay mugawas man
When you become still kase, yung mga tinatago at isinasantabi na issues sa sarili mo will really grab
your attention...there was even one time that I cried the whole med session with no apparent reason
Sabi ng teacher ko, it is an outpouring..so just let it flow...
Sa umpisa, matagal na ang ten minutes sitting in stillness,,pero habang tumatagal...
nasasanay ka...at unti unting nang nawawala ang internal dialogue...
Hanggang sa...there is nothing but stillness. Then...bliss...peace.
Then amazing things happen na after that...nagrereflect na siya sa life ko
And yes, nakatabang actually siya nako to have focus
Like when I work, nobody could distract me when I put my mind into it
So I make it a point to sit in especially dito sa Manila
na ang dami daming psychic, emotional, mental garbage na masasagap mo everyday.

    hehehe, nobela na naman...
    Anyways, hope nakatabang ko
and i'll keep you updated if macontact nako sila.
    Blessings!

Zen? Zen is suppose to be non-ritualistic. Your suppose to sit down and think of nothing no matter what your position is. with the ballyhoo of New Age beliefs and gibberish, they have highjacked zen to make it more exotic and alluring than it is.

Zen is no-mind. Zen is spontaneous. Zen is silence. What is Zen? if you could answer the question what is the sound of one hand clapping, then you would realize what Zen is.

Zen is not taoism but they have similarities but they are not identical.

chan buddhism is a chinese form of Zen buddhism.

Buddhism we know originated in Indian subcontinent, (according to my history professor in undergraduate, it originated in China, but we all know it is from India, but she insists and so when she gave her question of buddhism's origin, we answer india, and we were wrong, because she insists she right, and she is dumb)

Buddhism has many strains, among them is Dyana. It migrated to China and became Chan Buddhism. it was brought to Japan and became Zen. Dyana- Chan- Zen
it cores idea: enlightenment in silence not with rituals nor with academic discourse. Ever wonder why Haiku, which Zen influenced, could never be understood? Because you rationally attempt to grasp it. Zen is beyond reason. And it is not ritual.
