i have used 4 sonys. 1 cd writer(PATA), 2 combo drives(PATA and it cannot burn on the highest rated speed that is printed on the box. i have it replaced 3x but still the same issue so i give up) and last week 1 sony dvd writer(SATA). they have 1 thing in common. they are sometimes picky on a disk you insert. but as for my LG, i have 3 dvd writers(PATA) and 1 dvd writer(SATA). my LG reads everything i insert in it and it can burn on the highest speed printed on it's box.
