right... i dont see any sense on what broadbandAC has just shared...
each SATA port has its own channel/line/way... whereas sa ide, yes they share the cables. allowable of maximum two drives per channel...
AMD_infinium05 and spookey:
Yes, both of you are right that IDE technology has 2 channel in every cable... and that Serial ATA has a dedicated single cable... ooops, i'm not sure if this is only according to what you have seen physically on your assembly, i'm ryt? but this is not what i meant on my suggestion to hydrozam...
Mostly, the Latest motherboards support upto 6 SATA devices and 2 IDE devices... Now, talking about these 6 SATA slots, they are physically situated from each other.... we can see that obviously.... but if you will try to view the chipset layout particularly on the southbridge, these SATAs are all merged into a single databus going to the southbridge of the chipset.... assuming that we use only 4 SATA ports, 2 for HDs and the other 2 for DVDRWs, if all of these stuff are running they will share the main databus.... there is an interval of data transfer depending on the capacity of the main databus....
Now, considering the 2 DVDRWs are removed from the SATA slots, only the remaining 2 SATA HD will utilize the entire databus... meaning, data transfer is faster.... this is what i meant why I suggested to use an IDE DVDRW, because IDE main databus is different from SATA... although IDE still going to the northbridge....
Not to be nitpicking or anything, but just making sure we all use the correct terms.
All SATA (Serial Advanced Technology Attachment) drives are IDE (Integrated Drive Electronics) devices (the logic board is built in to the drive).
You should therefore say PATA (Parallel Advanced Technology Attachment, using the 40 or 80-pin ribbon cable, transferring data in parallel) or SATA, which is simply transferring data serially (that is, transferring 1 bit per clock signal).

go for sata , kay mas cleaner tan-awon imo rig ana ...
for brand i recommend Sony , hehehe , nindot
kay wala jud ko nag problema...
dont go for Asus kay naa ko another unit napailisan
na nako kay naa problem ,,,and daghan negative
feedbacks karon ang Asus Optical Drives ...
sakto jud- its not a matter of IDE or SATA when it comes in performance
it comes in brand and quality...
LG GSA H55L IDE akoa = no problem for almost 1year na
mine is samsung combo drive and iv been using this for 3 years now. IDE/PATA ni sya
Yeah, this is true.... But after the introduction of SATA, most of the HD, CD R/W, or DVD R/W manufacturers didn't specifically published the opposite of SATA, which is PATA.... Instead, they still used the term IDE because it is understood that the conventional ATA is in Parallel.... This means that whatever you tell the vendor that you gonna buy an IDE device, he will not give you a SATA type... :o... though, this is really a misconception 'coz SATA and PATA are both IDE devices....
