the only BUT is on how to address this global problems in the local or national scope. and that is what the SONA is asking all of us.

honestly, i don't buy the biofuel thingy. it would create an imbalance of food production..more significant para nako is alternative energy like geo, hydro, wind, solar.

The term "false hope" refers to a hope based entirely around a fantasy or an extremely unlikely outcome.

The SONA is not in any way a fantasy or an extremely unlikely outcome. The SONA is talking about our state-of-the-nation. It's measurable, and realistic, though with a political flair. It's not crap unless to those who haphazardly think it is crap.

The more appropriate term for the SONA should be INSTILLING OPTIMISM. We should also distinguish "hope" from "optimism" coz they are both somewhat different.

"pagkain sa mesa ng bawat filipino." how does that sound bro? it sure fits your description of "false hope" ( an extremely unlikely outcome ).

"Instilling Optimism" wow nice words....nyah....get real man!

What is the real state of the nation......? ====> C-R-A-P! admit it, we are in deep shit!

hasnt she been ranting about food on every filipino's table for so long? and yes we are in deep shit. optimism can only go so far. i think its better to expect the worse rather than pretend its all gonna be ok. its how the americans back then lay prey to the japanese because they were too optimistic that the japanese were too chinky eyed to shoot a rifle. then came pearl harbor. theres nothing wrong with optimism but false hope is another thing. but hey im might just be bullshitting everyone

r u still living in 2007? wow, u r talking about the 2007 SONA. what we are talking about here is the SONA made yesterday. as in 2008 na.

now, about that 2007 SONA, how u understand that phrase "pagkain sa bawat mesa ng bawat filipino" totally depends entirely on u...u myt want to call it "false hope" but some people won't agree with that. why? coz there was a plan. how far the plan went is wa ko kabalo...and u don't have to limit that phrase only to what u understand. Basin naa pa nay sumpay nga iyang gisulti or prior to that phrase. there should be a "how"...coz AFAIK, taas2x man toh speech niya.

I was reacting on someone who tried to justify GMA's 2007 SONA as instilling hope, until you butt in.

yeah, my bad for butting in.

anyways, i searched the full text of SONA 2007 and there was no mention about "pagkain sa bawat mesa".

i was wrong. u r wrong. this phrase was actually used in her 2003 SONA instead and kept as DA's battle cry up till now.

    here it was:

"At Sa Aking Unang State Of The Nation Address, Pinagdiinan Ko Ang Mga Batayang Hangarin Ng Karaniwang Pilipino: Trabaho, PAGKAIN SA BAWAT MESA, Tahanan, Edukasyon.

    I Gave My Targets.

I Am Submitting To The Congress And To The Nation A Technical Report Of My Government’s Performance. In Sum I Can Say, We Delivered In Great Part On Our Commitments.

Hindi Lumampas Ang Dalawang Buwan Pagkatapos Noong State Of The Nation Address, Noong 9-11, Nagbago Ang Mundo. Sa Mga Batayang Hangaring Trabaho, PAGKAIN SA BAWAT MESA, Tahanan, At Edukasyon, Ating Idinagdag Ang Kapayapaan."...

now u see the message? now compare that with just only the phrase. differs doesn't it? can u call it "false hope" then? it's not even close to it. why? it's actually one of the "batayang hangarin ng karaniwang pilipino" (dreams of the common filipino) that she was just stressing so that we will know what her admin's priorities are.

so please, don't twist the meaning...it's laying out plans and targets first. "hope" and "optimism" comes to play later, depende sa tawo. gets?

    @giddyboy;

Bro, don't pin it on me, It was not me who used the word "Instilling Hope".

It started when someone here attempted to justify the statement "pagkain sa mesa ng bawat filipino." as instilling hope.

I reacted by saying "instilling false hope" instead.

    Then you came along.

And besides saying something like "pagkain sa mesa ng bawat filipino." is a long shot for me, tell me when was the last time we zeroed in poverty?

    Ok then.

well, i don't have enough knowledge to tell about zeroing on poverty. besides, poverty has a lot of related factors. It could mean joblessness. it could mean u have no home. it could also mean "walang pagkain sa mesa".

The phrase "pagkain sa mesa sa bawat filipino" is a dream. a goal that we all want to achieve. and of course, that is a long shot. now to reach that dream at least one step closer is u need "action", plus "hope", plus "optimism".

it's like a motto in life gud...

    "Life without Dreams = JOB"

anyways, here's something ADB has to say about "poverty programs" for the last 5 years:

ADB says limited success for poverty programs in Philippines

    Agence France-Presse
    First Posted 15:57:00 07/23/2008

MANILA, Philippines -- The Asian Development Bank (ADB) said Wednesday that its programs aimed at lifting millions of Filipinos out of poverty have had limited success.

"ADB assistance program over the past five years has been successful in meeting its more selective objectives, despite need for improvements. However, the larger context for the next country strategy continues to be daunting," it said.

The Manila-based lender said it had lent nearly $10 billion for programs addressing the Philippines' fiscal woes, developing capital markets and ensuring reliable power supply.

Despite these, tax revenues slipped to 14.1 percent last year, below the 14.8-percent target set by the government, and poverty rose to 32.9 percent of the population in 2006 "despite robust growth."

"In the coming years, the Philippines will face significant development challenges," the bank said in an evaluation report."...
