the fastest possible way (straight line) doesn't necessarily mean "the easiest" route. add to that, you don't have to be a man nor a woman in order for you to CHOOSE which way to go because both have FREE WILL and thus are capable of deciding which way is the best way to go. a man can take the "long and winding path" just as a woman can take the "straight route". so basically, Miss U's answer could go either way...

BUT if she threw in this phrase "that women have been discriminated against" somewhere in there then that would make more sense on why men had it easier in life. remember, it wasn't too long ago that women were not allowed to vote, not allowed to hold top positions in companies, not even allowed to work and even in fact just relegated to household chores etc etc...

even until today, sexism still exists in some societies in the world thus supporting the point I just raised.
discrimination is definitely one of the many "curves" that women had to hurdle.
yes, anybody can take any route. but we're talking social stereotypes. and most men really don't give a damn. most women do. and most women take the long and winding road.
in the end, truly only miss venezuela can further explain her answer.
but everybody knows the obvious answer to the question, so why be too specific about it. let it go either way. the judges got it. everybody else got it.

"Men always think that the faster way to go to a point is by going straight as opposed to women who think that going through curves and fixing every curve is the way to go."

    s
o is it the men's fault now if he "thinks" that way? women can and is capable of thinking the same way BUT she doesn't and she wouldn't. she's only making her life more difficult by CHOOSING to go through the curves.. you know what I mean...?

and now... she's wondering why men chose the straight route when in fact she can very well take that route too. you know that... and I know that, there's no rocket science there.

"truly only miss venezuela can further explain her answer"

that's the point, she did gave an answer but, for me, it's an answer that would need further explanation because it doesn't answer the question. by making her win, the judges doesn't necessarily "get it", sometimes they choose the "best of the wrong answers"... of which I think is the case of MIss U.

^my point is that men and women are made that way. it's in their most basic of instincts.
men are like this. women are like that. men think like this. women think like that.
it might be her own doing, it might not be her own doing. but we know a woman's life is almost always less easier than a man's. almost always.
if the judges didn't get it then the rest of the world did not get it as well. everyone's praising miss venezuela for her witty answer. everyone thinks she stole the crown from colombia, not on the merits of her physique and looks but on that singular final answer. everyone believes she won because of her final answer.
so basing on the final answers given, who do you think should have won then?
this is my final reply to this issue. i don't desire this to be a platform for a debate.
i believe there are other options available to air disputes against the winner.
    peace.

^ if the question asked were: "what's the difference between a man and a woman?"... then yes, Miss U's answer would be perfect. but that's not the case here, so the straight line and curves answer don't apply.

it took you more than a couple of posts to explain what Miss U meant with her answer and yet nothing in there justifies the "who have it easier" part.

if it were here in the forums, Miss U's answer would be OT. catch my drift?

here's some comments from people who understood what the judge's question was all about:

Is it just me or did Miss Venezuela Dayana Mendoza answered her question completely wrong BUT still won Miss Universe 2008 anyway. I thought her question was "who got it easier, men or women ? " Instead she went on and on how men and women approach things with "curves and straight stuff..." What's up with that? I truly think that the pageant is rigged.

Tuesday, 15 July 2008 I don't think any of the contestants answered their questions very well. They didn't seem to actually answer the question, they would just talk about something else vaguely related to it. Maybe there were problems with the interpretation?

just like what I said earlier, the Judges chose the best answer among the wrong ones...

c'mon the "debate" started when you said Miss U's answer was right on the money. what's wrong with picking each others brains?

or maybe you second guessed her answer when you gave it a second thought...
