    1. nag set up ko ug router sa balay, kay naa man gud laptop, ako sis nag gamit, pero im not sure when siya mogamit sa internet, so ang router must be ON always, does routers can handle long hours of use?

    2. dili man ko expert ani na field, i just followed the installation wizard that comes with the purchase, sa SECURITY setting nako ky WPA-PSK, okey ra ba na, can it provide minimum security?...

    3. is there a posibility na i can see (as Admin) computers who are logged in sa network? just for monitoring purposed, basin ba naay makasud na unauthorized, and if ever naay makasulod posible ba na maka block ko sa iya connection?

    4. kanang built in SPI firewall sa router automatic ba na xa mo active upon instalation? ky wa man gud ko kasugat ug dialog box na mo prompt ug i ON ba ang firewall....

by the way im using wireless networking (walay wired connection existing except the host computer), and using a NETGEAR router...

    1. Yes your router can tolerate that service. we have linksys router running 24/7. dont worry about temperature, routers doesnt dissipate that much heat.

    2. WPA - Pre Shared KEy is the wise choice for home users like you as an authentication. just get a good 'key' combine letters and numbers, possibly make sure that your key is not in the dictionary. atleast 10characters long

    3. yes you can check whether unauthorized computers are on your network if your router supports that. anyway maybe if you just want to allow your computer and your sis' laptop on the network, you can do mac filtering or even ip address filters.

    4. some routers have firewalls disabled by default, just check your settings. if you want some extra protection, turn it on.

    Good luck!

yah mac filtering is good. . . but watchout kay pwede raba ma spoof ang mac address. . .

@ AMD _infinium...salamat kaayo sir sa imo reply, im trying to learn all about computers step by step lang gud hehehhe

@grlnxtdor.....you can use a router sis (any brand will do linksys, NETGEAR, D-Link etc..)...based on my observation sa aset up sa ako cusin, 3 PCs gihapon nag share sa router wa may lag sa connection parehas raman, ako lang notice sa wireless connection, the farther you are (considering you get a good signal) mas paspas hinoun, i experienced it myself lately lang ky bag-o raman sad ko naka set up ug router, naa ko directly ubos sa router, i get a descent speed, enough to satisfy me..but when i moved about 70 ft from the router the transfer rate is much better heheehe

since you are with globelines, just secure a linksys router. WRT54G, WRT54GL, BEFSR41, BEFSX41 - these are good routers too. though BEFSR41 is a bit old....

    1. yes, each time you use the quick setup cd program on the cd... it will rewrite on your router.

    2. admin config page of routers are available to you anytime, just get the ip of your router... login to it.
