No, the Bible wasn't handed by God to the people. Though I believe the Bible is inspired by God(probably this is what you mean). Surely, the Bible was compiled by the Catholic Church with the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. When RC claims that we compiled the Bible, others argue that it is not the case, because the Jewish Scriptures(old testament) already existed. But the old testament is not the Bible, the Gospels are not the Bible, the new testament Books are not the Bible. What you call the Bible is the compilation of these many books. So the Bible came from the church and not the church came from the Bible (You already agreed on this when you said that Christ founded the Christian church on Peter and during that time there was no Bible yet). So the Catholic Church claims authority over the Bible and not the Bible claims authority over the Catholic Church. So that is why I don't believe in any church which doesn't claim authority over the Bible.
