As for me, as a Catholic, I believe on that assertion because I believe on the authority of the Catholic Church to shepherd its flock.
:: It's worth investigating what was handed down to us whether it's in accordance with what Jesus Christ taught or not; whether those statements are stated in the Bible or not. Otherwise one can blindly believe the "assertions" made by a particular teaching body (which is ironically, fallible, given the true nature of man) without taking the extra mile of verifying whether they are truth or falsehood, especially if one come into grips that life in the afterlife is decided while one is still living. And being led by blind guides is inexcusable (Matthew 15:13-14). As the Roman Catholic Church pronounces,"let him be anathema!"

I don't want to exercise my faith blindly without digging into facts, bro. And what you believe is manifested by the way you see and act in life.

nganong nilamoy man ka anang three kings nga niduaw sa manger? nga kahibaw man unta ka nga ang kanang magi gikan sa east, ug ang pag travel gikan sa east padung sa bethlehem mo take gud na ug pila ka months.

now do you think si Joseph ug Mary mo stay sa "manger" maski one month man lng? gamita kuno inyong common sense.

pero kay mao man ang gisulti sa inyong pari, aw lamoy lng sad mo. pagkalooy biya ninyo oi. mga bright man unta mo pero wa man ninyo gamita inyong utok.

    WAKE UP!!!!

... to investigate is one part. To decide what you have found out is another part, and another story.

And in this portion resistance or acceptance to what you have found out comes in. <-- And this is usually the most difficult part: imagine abandoning some (or even all) of your cherished beliefs since childhood that were handed down to you by your folks and embracing another one due to what you have found out as the truth.

If thats the case, then the magi could have started their travel much much earlier than the expected date of birth.

Why not? If beggars can stay on the street for years, how much more on a manger for a month? Lets just say there was Divine intervention.

I'm curios, have you ever done that before? Abandoning the religious ideas you have embraced since you were a child? How does it feel? Which church do you belong before and what church do you belong now? Which ideas have you abandoned?
