every mechanical/movable device has a specific mean-time-between-failure or MTBF (check hard drive specs), consider the wear and tear of the device, pro kng bago pa jud sya, lets say less than 6mos, then its possible that theres really something wrong with the device, no choice but to have the device rma'ed

    whats your full detailed specs?

I would really first thought of, you have a bad power source. or freaky PSU, or faulty power cables/data cable

check your psu.. basin maoy problematic... check if it can support the whole system / if it outputs the proper voltages...

fluctuations sa power mao sad usa ka hinungdan.. bsan unsang device man tingali. we used to have a tv giplug kuyog sa ref. 3x naguba, pagbalhin sa tv nawagtang na problema..

use a good avr or mas maayo ups para sure kang d makalit ang patay. properly shutdown the os, ayaw derecho ibot ang plug..

lastly, sunod, adto sa seagate mismo palit para madugay2x imo warranty. lolz. pwede sad to nimo sa ila ipa warranty bsan sa uban shop nimo napalit imo seagate drive...

If you just tend to turn it off without shutdown, THEN YES! specially if the harddrive is in a process of READING / Writing on its platters, then suddenly you turn it off... what happens to data sa platterS? it is Unfinished.. and parking R/W could hit the firmware zone, that would really make your drive crazy.

But if you mean shutting it down properly, IT'S not a problem on how many times your use and un-use your computer.

"Shutdown procedures has instructions telling the harddrive 'to park the head right BEFORE' the OS will totally send cut off power signal to the board then to the psu."

under power schemes sa power options properties, there's an option na "turn off harrdisk" after a certain period...i just wonder what it is for...
