    if you're running windows xp...try these couple of things:

    boot to the Recovery Console using your operating system cd, choose the appropriate operating system and login as administrator if need be then type the following commands below (where x is the drive letter that you're having problems with.

    chkdsk x: /r (checkdisk takes quite a long time to finish, about 40 minutes to an hour)
    fixmbr

    if it still doesn't work, you might wanna add this one:

    fixboot x:

    i'm just surprised how everyone was so fast in referring 3rd party applications and haven't tried the recovery console. tsk!

    great contribution there poldopunk! I think none have known the recovery console like I do lolz! I also use 3rd party applications
