there's no such genre as emo...i think it came from punk then pgsulod sa dark metal ug scream,,ngsagol na...mao na ang emo hasn't a history or shall i say no originality...ikog2 ra na sa punk...

EMO is a new genre that kids from the US made, it started out as a type of pop punk music with lyrics that strikes the emotional side of the listerners (henceforth EMO) then it branched out to other genre's as sub gnere's... its just any typical genre that starts out, first music then the fashion trend...
