guys, i think Toshiba has ceased development of HD-DVD to give way for the development of the new format. so BLURAY all the way na!
If you really want to get the most out of your Blu Ray investment, check out the BBC Documentary Planet Earth (available in HD-DVD too). I have a friend here in Cebu swears its the best he's ever seen on a hi-def TV (viewing it on his PS3).
HD-DVD for me was undoubtedly a better format for me. The only real disadvantage to it compared to Blu Ray was storage space (and if you ask the megacorps, Blu Ray had supposedly 'better' DRM). HD-DVD's DRM (AACS) is already broken, but the DRM also isn't mandatory. There's also no Region Coding. It's also cheaper to produce, and most of the early HD-DVD discs contained all of the features that were being offered by Blu Ray. Most of the early Blu Ray releases were in fact, not H.264/VC-1 but freakin' MPEG-2 (DVD quality). There's even some hybrid HD-DVD discs that can be read by ordinary DVD players; Blu Ray just doesn't have these options. Blu Ray has three (3) different revisions (1.0, 1.1 and 2.0), meaning, the early adopters are just out of luck, since they will probably have little to no capability of upgrading them, unless of course if you bought the PS3.
