PMP asks Erap to break silence, lead campaign for 'truth'

The Partido ng Masang Pilipino (PMP) on Friday formally asked pardoned former President Joseph Estrada to break his silence and join the campaign for truth sparked by the anomalous national broadband network deal between the Arroyo government and the China-based ZTE firm.

In a resolution signed by all its officers and members, the PMP also asked Estrada to continue leading the fight for truth and not be cowed by the administration's efforts to silence him.

The resolution was presented to Estrada during the PMP’s consultative political meeting held at the Zirkho in Greenhills, San Juan City.

The PMP based its call on the Philippine Constitution which guarantees freedom of expression and the right to assemble.

“Freedom of expression and to assemble are avenues that can take us to the truth. It has never been threatened in our country’s contemporary history than today. There is conscious and manifest attempt to deny such right to express one’s view of on-going affairs of government and to join gatherings of people peacefully assembled to redress their grievances, to no less than a former president of this Republic-President Joseph Ejercito Estrada" the PMP resolution read.

The PMP said like any other Filipinos, citizen Estrada is free to speak his mind and disagree with what others say. - GMANews.TV
