I mean, some if not most call centers don't necessarily require one to have a degree in order to work in a call center. So for me, the salary the call centers pay is more than enough for a job fit for an undergrad. I think they're not "exploiting" their employees or better yet it's the "intelligent people" who are allowing it to happen because they "think" they don't have a choice

    ..

The call center job is not a job fit for undergrads. It is a job ALSO for undergrads. Do you see the difference? Believe me, arnoldsa, it takes more than proficiency in the English language to succeed in this field. Even given that, it takes years and a lot of practice to REALLY be proficient in it.

I have worked in the call center industry for 4 years, and yes, it pays well. I graduated from a reputable university with a degree in Legal Management. I chose to work in a call center because it is a dynamic and challenging job. Others who might have tried working in the call center may not share my sentiments but I believe a person and the job he/she has must be a match.

Call centers do not exploit people - undergraduates or otherwise. How can we be exploited? We have insurance, health benefits and allowances. We don't get paid minimum wage because over at where I work, the starting salary, on average, is Php 12000. I think that's pretty decent.

And everyone, just because not all of us TRULY understands how it is to work in a call center, let's stop making judgments about the industry that's keeping our economically strained nation afloat. NOT ALL OF US KNOW THAT THE CALL CENTER INDUSTRY IS THE HIGHEST REVENUE GENERATOR FOR THE PHILIPPINES, SECOND ONLY TO OUR OFW BROTHERS AND SISTERS. Let's stop making negative judgments about people who work in the call center. We are hardworking, efficient, intelligent and highly skilled. That, and we pay our taxes.

and if you mean the shifting schedules and the graveyard shits, yes, they can be challenging. i think ALL jobs are tiring IF ONE DOESN'T HAVE THE RIGHT MINDSET. people work graveyard shifts and long hours ALL the time. isn't that what other professions do, as well?

    good luck!

FIRST, nobody is judging people from the callcenter industry. SECONDLY, nobody ever said that people in callcenters are dumb and inferior. In fact they are bright, talented and skilled but THEY COULD BE IN A BETTER INDUSTRY or CAREER, that's the point. Lesser qualified people in the US work in callcenters and the agents here are over-qualified. Don't you see the wide disparity in that?

Haha. I never said that someone said people from the call center are dumb and inferior. OF COURSE, they or more specifically, we are bright, talented and skilled.

There are a lot of people who choose to be in the call center because they think it is a place to build a good career. I'm one of those people. Now, if there were really something BETTER like what you just said, then wouldn't I go there? Wouldn't I be the first one to line up and hand in my CV? It doesn't make sense to stay in something WHEN YOU YOURSELF KNOW THERE IS SOMETHING BETTER OUT THERE.

Moreover, no one can say what is a better industry for you EXCEPT YOU. THE STANDARD YOU SET FOR THE INDUSTRY THAT IS GOOD OR BETTER OR THE BEST FOR YOU IS SET BY YOU. NO ONE ELSE.

Please read the entire thread again.

ME? Please stop kidding yourself, if these individuals have a choice and has the means to take on better opportunities, do you honestly think they will go for it and STICK IN IT? Think again... Don't believe me? Make a survey among your account managers because they said it themselves, that's if they won't be in denial. Are you honestly trying to insinuate that these bright and dynamic people with college degrees from good universities as you profoundly emphasize, truly and genuinely love their callcenter jobs? It's not about perspective and attitude, it's plain basic logic and I am NOT GENERALIZING, and I may seem too opinionated to you but I am just simply stating a plain hard fact.

Engineers, IT professionals, accountants, medical professionals, budding entrepreneurs STUCK in customer service? Oh come on, give me a break! Heck, most Americans here in the States doesn't even take up nursing or teaching anymore not because the pay is low but because for them, they could be better and do something more worthwhile with their professional lives. The same goes true for Koreans.

Filipinos will always be service-oriented people. It's not that it is degrading but the downside is, we will never progress with this kind of mentality.

BTW, since it is very obvious where you are coming from, you might also want to comment on this THREAD

Sweetie, you cannot be STUCK in something unless you chose to do so. LytSlpr, I graduated from the Ateneo de Manila University with a degree in Legal Management. I have an MA in Marketing. The team alone that I work in has graduates from UP Cebu, Xavier University, UP Diliman and UST. And yes, we love our jobs.

Oh, and don't you worry, Lytslp. don't you worry one bit, okiedokie? I'll make a survey among my managers to ask if they're truly unhappy and dissatisfied to work in a call center. You'll just have to wait with bated breath because they won't return from the US until mid-March. They're having to much fun there, I guess.
