The Filipino film industry is dying if not dead.
Many reasons can be said but in my opinion, economy is a major. Movies here are seen mainly as entertainment (I know not everyone would agree) and not everyone can afford to buy the tickets to be entertained.
Television is the cheap substitute, it's available all the time and it's free. (Why spend money for a movie when you can just stay at home with your family in front your TV set and use the money for dinner?)
On the other hand, how many Filipino movies are made lately that you would be willing to spend your money on?
Reality Check... In Cebu, are the movies you're making the kind that audience will buy tickets for? Or are you the kind who make "ART FILMS" and wonder why the film industry is dying?
No. I DO NOT make art films. I make commercially appealing movies but they cannot be commercialized because my soundtracks are violating of the Intellectual Property Rights.Reality Check... My oxy***** statement will infuriate many. I can feel your anger. It makes you stronger. Gives you focus.![]()
Right you are. I remember the good old days when tickets for DeLuxe used to be sold for 40 Philippine Pesos. Many reasons can be said but in my opinion, economy is a major.
Sir, you mentioned you weren't impressed with SINE UG KATILINGBAN, correct?Reality Check... In Cebu, are the movies you're making the kind that audience will buy tickets for? Or are you the kind who make "ART FILMS" and wonder why the film industry is dying?
Save for some of the pretentious entries from the International Academy of Film and Television such as TAXI, and the racist documentary with Andrew Durbin all the movies were enjoyable especially NIGHT SHIFT from San Carlos and THE WITNESS by SineBuano, which I consider to be the best in that film fest.
Welcome to the forums by the way, the name's Bo. I'm not fat. I'm just the bishop. And a former lurker.
Welcome to the forum. Obese Bo Ricardo and angryliar.
angryliar: The people within the indie filmmaking community try our best to make commercially viable movies with the very limited budget that they have. While it still needs improvement, it'll get there. After all, indie films have only been active in cebu for the past 2 years.
Bo: I'm glad you liked the Witness.
While the cebuano movies have yet to take the limelight, we are trying as much as possible to inform people the existence of new digital cebuano films through semi-regular showings via an event called "Salida" usually held at Handuraw.

That's why he's so knowledgeable in filmmaking.
Or am I just sounding like a retard here?
