it will decline if we continue to be so "colonial" in mind.

...is strictly stuck in soap opera "fashion"-- the direction, cinematography, etc.
One thing that makes me sick is the ones that always feature a teen leading-man, and a leading-lady. Seriously, like any of the movies of this kind are any different from the other 1,000,001 pinoy romance chick-flicks that have been made.

vanceloma: only you will be able to pull up something like that. hehehe.

mrbiddle: i can't wait to see your new film. as you improve in every film you make.

i agree with r/brey when he said that we need new and younger screenwriters and directors. I am sick and tired of seeing teen lead falls in love with lady lead but parents do not agree because one is poor while the other comes from a rich family.

on the other hand, with the screenings of new films like crying ladies, la visa loca, bikini open and even panaghoy sa suba, i notice that the mainstream cinema is starting to change. as nick de ocampo said, during the film congress, that "we are at the helm of a paradigm shift within the industry".

maybe, within the ranks of the indie filmmakers will rise another ishmael bernal, a mike de leon perhaps, or maybe even a lino brocka. whoever it will be, i just hope they do not fall into the traps that most mainstream filmmakers fall into.

I believe Stephen Covey is very influential too. Nick's been reading THE 7 HABITS. :wink

It's in bisaya,unya murag coming-of-age story,

One scenario of the film will be like

Vocalist: Bai! Di ka pwedi mu quit bai! chance ni nato para mu sikat!
Bassist: Punyeta! unsa man atong makuha anang banda banda ha?!
Vocalist: kung mu quit ka, tirahan tika sa akong laser eyes.
Bassist: kayasa, way ingon ana ay!

wow....grabe ang DRAMA!!!

I dunno, mas nindot paman ang mga independent filipino works, it boggles me why people refuse to watch em'.

but then when I go to people and invite em to watch a mainstream filipino movie
"uy, tanaw ug LA Visa Loca! nindot siya"
"Ha? tagalog mana! di ko ana uy, tanaw lang kog Star Wars Revenge of the phantom menace"

pero kung imong ingnon ingon ani
"Tanaw La Visa Loca, it's by Mark Meily, director sa Int'ernationally accalimed Crying Ladies."
"Ah MAO VA!!! belib gyud ko ana niya, laisyo laisyo na siyag movies, tanaw ko ana with my other konyo friends."

Gi attachan man gud ug additional info....

filipino movies are either full of re-hashed roles/stories or borrowed/stolen/pirated roles/stories...

it's like watching something over and over again (only done by other "actors" who delude themselves that they can act) or a poor imitation of the original (foreign) film....

which, if summed up in 5 words is: WASTE OF MONEY AND TIME!

Declined and slowly dying. The stories are always too cliched. Sometimes watching the trailer is enough, you can already tell what the story is and how its going to end. Hmm...pero sometimes, naa man sad ok2x og story, but usahay ra sad lagi kaayo...Oh well...

Default try this

Filipino Films are declining, like our own cebuano cinema was and gone... there is nothing wrong with the scripts and all that. every script is a creation of something either new, moral or functional.. i do believe that every story is diversed with geniune focal that may capture every audience.. what we need to do is NOT only to support. but to really think and move.. (dinhi sa ta sa CEBU)

so a film is created blah blah blah by some of our fantastic passionate digital filmmakers... whatever the story is... our main problems are:
1. AUDIENCE MARKETING
2. STUDY
3. INFORMATION ADVOCACY

waht we need to do ... we would like to ask aid to this SINEBUANO pipol.. taht they would make a summit alliance for advocacy... like during SINE ug KATILIGMAN.. we were happy knowing that the revive cebuano cinema movement supported that festival or sumthing... after several months... they were unheard from again... FOR ME... mayber its because of the NCCA... u gots my point.. we need a continuity of advocacy to our own.

how about... form a summit... alliance to plan a goal for 3 years. lets say "AUDIECE".. create films then screen these films for free to the every sides of cebu then continue this passionate advocay for like monthly... WHY? because theyre our audience.. we should continue to show films... what they see now. will change what they know. and. will change what theyll expect soon. .. letting them see what we are made of... Free sa sa karon... i knw its painful for others but if ur really into this passion and advocacy to revive... our fruit will be as sweeter as we think...
(trust me we did this at davao... bt it was anohter subjct)

after or less than the target goal of 3 years (which is the film market "cebu lang sa") then we could sell films confidently... knowing taht our audience had undergone several exposure to our film, changing their views , well after a lot of study.., this would be better.

then... rest follows... the only revival thing that we could do is to support, collaborate, study and promote. PROMOTION, on the other hand is another thing. Nothing is impossible in our case. as a lot of ilmmakers would say and do.... LETS TAKE THAT RISK.

actually, the whole trailer IS the whole story...

it only takes about 5 minutes of that... the rest of the 1hour and 30mins of film is filled with fillers... more cliches, the more than occasional slapstick, the obligatory "sampalan", etc...

that's the sad truth.
