maybe its time for RP to nationalize the industry so that we will become a BPO PROVIDER/SUPPLIER, with bargaining power coterminous to Saudi's oil. This is way better compared to a mere BPO haven for foreign investors nga mura lang nuon ta nag maintain og construction worker or mag-uuma sa tubo nga papauli-on sa balay kun wala nay trabahuon...

the project is feasible because not only that it requires less capital (i-improve ra man gamay ang education by more english and less bull****, then palit og daghan headsets sa cd r-king ), there is actually a damn need for foreing companies to outsource. Asa sa china? Of course diri ra gyud sa pinas. Therefore we should be the one nga mag-invest then sila igo ra sila mupalit diri og LABOR at our PRICE.

pero unsaon man, mopatigbabaw man gyud ang kolonyal nga mentalidad sa kadaghanan nga moluhod na nuon sa ongoing exploitation ug mo-justify pa gyud sa nahi-agoman sa pinoy call center agent....kay lagi gikinahanglan man nila ang pamugas, ignoring the fact nga sila mismo ang mag-uuma dili lang sa bugas, kundili sa nagkadaiyang lagutmon ug nating kordero sa pasib-siban nga siya mismo ang nanag-iya ug nagtikad .

when the time comes siguro bro pinas can dictate the price of labor. but as of now i doubt the country cannot afford to loose investments such as this unless we can sustain ourselves which is the right way unta.

^^it has to be gradual, co-exist usa with foreign players until maka-gain na og ground ang lokal nga BPO provider...action plans should range from pirating best employees to monopolizing clients (mudagan gyud na ang clients sa company with best employees) to buy-outs. Ambitious but feasible. daghan pang maayong technocratic sugyot compared sa akong minayukmok but that should be the paradigm. when you say we need money for our labor force....they also need our labor so pa-ugat lang gud gamay. if all else will fail in the foreseeable future then it must not be too late to undo everything...trial and error.

Call centers are helping the economy of the Philippines to grow the same way the BPO industry has had an effect in India. In fact, based on Forbes and other global sites, the Philippines is ranked next to India as the prime BPO destinations in the world. That means, we are now second in the list of the most preferred BPO investment sites and one of the most established countries in terms of BPO industry.

The BPO industry does not only include call centers. FAO, SEO and web content writing are included in the different fields under BPO. They are IT-based jobs similar to contact center. There are various companies in Cebu nga naa na ani. Some are hidden and not easily recognized, of course, to lessen operational cost and thus, to have big profit. Some are recognized online.

I don't belong to call center because I am not apt for graveyard works. However, I am proud sa akong mga friends and to people nga naa sa call center nga nag work in graveyard shift. Na dala nila ang stress. I have observed sad sa mga call center companies that they have good business environment with good facilities, good interior decor and...

I think, the reason that call center agents have stressful job is that they can be exposed to one of their clients' client with very discriminating demand. A call center agent's job is to be a customer's representative and that is to answer queries and complaints( which can be harsh). some are into telemarketing.

Honestly, I am also in the BPO industry working as a web content writer. The job can be fun but entails a lot of keenness. And it is not graveyard unless i want to work in the wee hours until morning to produce more outputs to have much bigger pay. Some companies in Cebu have this kind. But you have to go for foreign ones or companies that own by foreigners with good business practices. I can also be a freelance writer but i opt to remain loyal to my company to elevate my rank in the organization hierarchy. In fact, there are various websites that accept as freelance writing. Many of the companies prefer Filipinos. Look for Philippines Craiglist to check for job offers if you want to try this.

I believe that call center agents are NOT underemployed or being forced to do that job. Firstly, they know the nature of the job before they accept the contract to work in that call center company. Secondly, they know that they can receive much higher pay than the normal job position that they aim during their college years. Thirdly, if a person doing in a call center has been exceptional in doing his or her job, he or she could possibly receive a raise or promotion in the near future granting he or she remains loyal to the company.

Most call centers, if not all, are US-based companies. (Some are Indian) US call center companies and other BPO companies prefer the Philippines because of low labor cost, good quality of labor and tax incentives. India and Ireland have become more progressive in terms of economy because of the BPO industries. BPO industry which is an IT industry has aided in their companies. Ireland is more on software development. Ireland, in fact is one of the largest IT hubs in the world. The increased consumer spending (because some Irish are employed in this industry) has helped in Ireland's economic growth.

Why I am referring to these countries?

Because of call centers and BPO, some business establishments have also benefited in the Philppines. The high-income earners in the BPO industry has helped in fueling the growth of other industries. That means increase consumer spending. That is why some establishments such as coffee shops and restaurants open and are closer to the sites of call centers because they know or have the projection that they can profit by targeting call center agents. Many businesses will be established and flourish on sites where there are high-income earners.

Call centers are good news in the Philippines especially in Cebu. And it is true, you have to be streetsmart and be an academic performer to gain a better living. My job has helped me gain more access to opportunities that can be found on the Internet. My college diploma, for me, is one of my treasures. However, my job is unrelated to my course( I am a commerce grad). It has helped me though in improving the way I deal with my job and my career.

I was asked. What is the biggest product of the philiippines? I answered, Call Centers. I know that we dont have much lumber to export or any major natural resources. Politicians should protect their hens that lays the golden egg. Yes, good news to call centers for now. But beware, they are replacing robots in the phone systems. i was amazed taking to a robot in their customer service hotline. You know what I mean. Sometimes theres good news... but nobody will mention the bad ones. We only want to hear the good news.

    This is what's happening now.

I know of someone who is running his own BPO company. He's based in Davao though and has a foreign BPO based in the USA as his partner. Naa sa travel industry iya business and mag 2 years na.

Ginagmay lang, but then big things come from small things. If I'm not mistaken, I think there are also Cebuanos who run their own BPO companies.

The gov't. should keep on encouraging, promoting and supporting local SMEs..

Yes, but the setting is very much the same as foreign based ones, i.e. seasonal and volatile... And as a start-up they are still acting like construction foreman with a bunch of pakyaw panday ready for labor contracting with outside comnpanies.

Unless the govt supports them and elevate them from mere SMEs, the current dynamics of BPO would still repeat itself in those promising firms.
