Need advice please. I've searched this and most of the topics I get are HDD vs SSD power consumption.
What I would like to know is will adding 1more SSD to a laptop with 1 HDD significantly affect battery
consumption?
Bought a new laptop:
HP Envy 17.3" Touch-Screen Laptop - Intel Core i7 - 16GB Memory - 1TB Hard Drive Silver M7-u009dx - Best Buy
It's got pretty decent specs:
core i7
nvidia 940 2gb
16gb ram
full hd 17.3" IPS touch screen
backlit keyboard
The only thing I don't like about it is that it only has a regular HDD at 1tb
I'm definitely going to buy an SSD for this one and I have 3 options.
1) buy ssd + bracket + sata connector (since this unit has one vacant slot)
2) buy caddy for ssd and replace the optical drive (since I'm not using it)
3) buy ssd and replace the hdd inside
I'm having second thoughts though because this will surely cause my warranty
to be voided and it's risky having a new laptop opened.
disadvantage of replacing the hdd with an ssd is that I will lose my storage size (i can only afford 256gb ssd)
disadvantage of hdd + ssd is that I don't know how much it will impact my battery usage.
Please give advice. Thanks.
