Master & Slave DNS Server

Good day!

1. Nag build ko Primary & Secondary DNS Server
2. Setup na tanan, zone files
3. Testing:
Primary DNS: makuha ra naku sakto na reply sa nslookup forwardzone & reverse zone and same result pud sa Secondary DNS.
4. PROBLEM: is need ko mag service bind restart sa Secondary DNS para ma update everytime naa ko changes buhaton sa Primary DNS.

kani ako gusto sab makat-unan..., pero wala koi alamag ...

hmmm..., wala di-ay na sila sync feature bro?..., since DNS mani..., dili di-ay pwede nga kuha lang si 2nd DNS sa primary DNS server?

since wala lagi alamag..., wala sab ko kahibalo sa imo setup ani nila duha, like failover ba or such... ^_^


hope na-a "MASTER" maka-tubag sa imo problema...

you have to allow-transfer sa Master DNS and specify the Secondary DNS IP address

sa Secondary DNS, set type to slave and add masters (ip address)

Master DNS
zone "linux.drox" {
type master;
file "/etc/bind/db.linux.drox";
allow-transfer { secondaryIP; };
also-notify { secondaryIP; };
};

zone "1.168.192.in-addr.arpa" {
type master;
file "/etc/bind/reverse.unixmen";
allow-transfer { secondaryIP; };
also-notify { secondaryIP; };
};

Slave DNS
zone "linux.drox" {
type slave;
file "/var/cache/bind/db.linux.drox";
masters { primaryIP; };
};

zone "1.168.192.in-addr.arpa" {
type slave;
file "/var/cache/bind/db.linux.drox";
masters { primaryIP; };
};

Thread resolved.

Things to note:

1. Any change on the zone file, you must increment the serial number.
2. Run 'rndc reload' to load/apply the changes without restarting DNS.

[Jhunax]

try to check daw if imong slave DNS maka receive ba sa NOTIFY message sa master DNS.

1.) add a new record sa imong master DNS.
2.) reload the zone para mo send out ug NOTIFY ang master DNS sa iyang slaves.
3.) verify sa slave DNS if naka receive cya sa NOTIFY by checking syslog.
