Default The Panama Papers: The shadowy world of off-shore accounts.

2.6 terabyte leak of Panamanian shell company data reveals "how a global industry led by major banks, legal firms, and asset management companies secretly manages the estates of politicians, Fifa officials, fraudsters and drug smugglers, celebrities and professional athletes."

Youtube video which sums up what is in those documents:https://youtu.be/F6XnH_Onp

Some graphs generated from the data showing it goes back to the 80s. The official site is very informative and what is in there. https://panamapapers.icij.org/graphs

Here is a nice website where relatives/associates of country leaders on the list are listed

It's seems Putin has also been implicated.

It's very sad that like the Snowden leaks this will probably not show up in any major news outlets. People will probably forget about this in a week.

It's also scary to know how much the media corporations control what we see in the news.

    well, hello real world!

    ignorance is indeed a bliss.
cause when those fancy filters peel off from your eyes, you'll begin to see things differently.
it'll fck you up, you wish you should've not known them. jst like diving into the deep web several years ago before it went mainstream. mka.ingon jd ka nga human beings in general are legit scary. savage creatures.

but can we really do something about it? hahaha
it does promote awareness, but i think this revelation won't do any effect at all.

Can't argue with that bro. Pag-gawas jud ani na news ni buto jud siyag dako, now it's not even talked about anymore.

The scary part is that the powetful men and women of the world aren't in government like what the average person thinks. The powerful people don't want us to think they exist.

This is hardly about the people involved. It has to do with business. Apparently the US is losing out on those funds stashed away. You also have to consider the distinction between tax-evasion and tax avoidance. With the rising number of Americans dumping their citizenship because of FATCA, the US simply had no choice.

    Number of Americans renouncing U.S. citizenship jumps 20% in 2015 - Feb. 8, 2016

The number of citizens and long-term residents cutting their official ties to Uncle Sam jumped more than 20% last year to 4,279, according to a CNNMoney analysis of the latest government data.
Yes, those tax havens are avoiding taxes. Haha pot calling kettle black.

The World’s Favorite New Tax Haven Is the United States - Bloomberg

His message was clear: You can help your clients move their fortunes to the United States, free of taxes and hidden from their governments. Last September, at a law firm overlooking San Francisco Bay, Andrew Penney, a managing director at Rothschild & Co., gave a talk on how the world’s wealthy elite can avoid paying taxes.
Swiss Banks React to FACTA, Tell Americans to Close Accounts | TIME.com

A few months ago, Geneva journalist Christophe Ungar got quite a shock: without any prior notice, his local bank closed out his mutual funds account, resulting in considerable losses due to the early withdrawal. This was not an inadvertent mistake, but, rather, an intentional move to oust Ungar, a US citizen, from the financial institution where he had banked for years. “When the bank realized I was American, they started treating me like I had the plague,” he says.
ICIJ is funded by Washington based entities. Seriously people would have figured it out already. Another thing to consider is where are major US and European personalities? I only see people listed as enemies on the State Department's list.

It's business. Nothing more. All tax havens like Switzerland, Luxembourg, etc... are being put out of the competition by the US since they have to have a hold on all those US dollars. Also consider that the files themselves are not being put online for third parties to scrutinize. This leak is Washington sanctioned, nothing more.

Bold claim can you prove that?

Don't go full retard on me please. Has the Icelander PM been audited and proven to have evaded taxes? No. Remember tax evasion is a criminal offense and it has to be proven beyond reasonable doubt. He resigned because of Scandinavian culture of being associated with such questionable act but his guilt has not yet been established.

Iceland PM is a small fish in Europe, his resignation comes as no critical consequence. Also remember Iceland jailed the bankers back in 2008 and did not honor the debts those bankers brought with them.

Please dont strawman me. I never argued whether Iceland PM has evaded taxes or not. You made a question on where are those European personalities, i refered to Iceland PM as a direct answer to that question.

Again i never argued whether there are more taxes haven other than Panama or none. Claiming that "It's business nothing more" is simply outrageous . For the sake of argument lets agree that the leak was Washington sanctioned, you still cant claim that those who have offshore accounts with Panama do it purely for business purposes only.

    Feel free not to reply
