    Default G.Skill Ripjaws KM780 Review

    Hey guys! Just wanted to give anyone who is planning to get a mechanical keyboard some heads up on one of my most recent purchases.
    Recently if you visit CAC, Nutech, or any other computer store, the most widely available peripherals would probably be from Razer, Steelseries, or Corsair. So, recently raman sd daw ni na release ang KM780.

    For the price points, the KM780 is tied with Chroma and the K70 RGB. The more expensive one's would be Logitech G910 and the Corsair K95 RGB and the Steelseries Apex M800.

    Now to start:

    Design: 10/10
    This keyboard has a tough and rugged design (sick looking pipe that runs at the sides). It also has a very slick looking volume and media keys on the upper right (volume wheel instead of buttons) and macro and lights keys on the upper left (all the aforementioned keys always light up. it cannot be turned off nor be changed to another color). It has a well designed tramp stamp right in the top middle, aligning well with the braided wire that's 2 meters long and has 2 usb plugs and audio and mic in (yes, you can easily plug your speakers if they only require usb power and the audio and voice in located in front of the media keys). Another tramp stamp on the left that makes the look better for my taste. The whole keyboard is made with anodized aluminum and the keys have a good plasticky-matte feeling to them (makes sense ra? hahaha)

    Lights: 7/10
    I have to say truthfully, the lights are not as bright as they K70 or the Chroma. Similar to the K70, directly below the keys are the lights and the surface it's on is the plain anodized aluminum. Unlike the Chroma, the surface below the keys is a white sort of material that easily reflects the colors, making it pop out more, giving it a more radiant glow easily surpassing the other two. Another caveat I have with the lights is the fluidity. Hopefully this is due to Gskill's software, but the transition of the lights doesn't seem to be as smooth as I want it to be. It might be the fact that because the Chroma seems to flow due to the light bouncing, but the K70 easily matches this but with just a little less life. This isn't the case with the KM780 - it really does feel a little off. IDK.

    Keys: 9/10
    The original Cherry MX keys are definitely something else. I have previously used Kaihl switches and the difference was somewhat really noticeable. The bounce and the feel is somewhat superior to Kaihl. I might just be praising the MX's a bit much, but hey, it's jut personal taste. The keyboard only comes in Red or Brown switches though (have the Browns)

    Overall: I just love this keyboard. It's slick, sexy, tight and looks very rugged. Though it lacks in the department of lights against the Chroma, you just can't beat the feel of anodized aluminum finish against plastic. And since both the K70 and KM780 have similar builds, the K70 doesn't provide dedicated macro keys (which I use a lot it games). Plus it doesn't follow the simple design of just a plain rectangle. There is some steampunk feel with the keyboard (pipe ftw). Would I recommend it? Definitely yes. There is no keyboard I would rather buy, at even a higher price point since the K95 is too large for me, the G910 uses Romer keys (which I don't even want to try), and the Apex M800 is just the Apex keyboard with RGB lighting and mechanical keys. The KM780 has no other one similar like it. If you've been using mechanical keyboards, then the feel of the keys is definitely right at home. And for those who are looking for one, the wait is over. This board blows the other competition for me.

    Chroma, K70, KM780 = Php 7,950 via CAC
    Apex M800 = 9,995
    K95 = 9,995
    G910 = Have not seen a retailer here in Cebu with display.

    Thanks for reading and enjoy your day!

    I'm using a mech keyboard too. .the reason why i don't like macro keys it because of the positioning of the typing. .masayop ko og type. .hopefully it's detachable. .that's why i wanna get the corsair k70 instead. .
