Let me give you guys a simple look at being a musician.
A musician is an artist, therefore he is meant to "express". Emotions, feelings, ideals tanan iya gibati about everything around. Mura kag gapintal ug mga butang nga imo na feel or nahuna-hunaan but you paint with music and songs. emo kumbaga (although some people wrongly think emo is sellout just because its become popular.)
But once the artist makes music to "impress" thats when he becomes a sell-out. Himo cyag tukar kay kahibaw cya daghan maimpress rather than care for what he wants to express and completely disregards his roots and artistic growth. Mura cyag ga-painting ug mga masterpieces nga hinimo na sa uban. Sundog sundog kung baga aron maka kwarta.
Its like sacrificing your artistic soul for the money. *peace!
Take for instance System of a Down, they got real famous but they stuck to their style and music. Not caring if they'll make more money out of it or they'd lose a lot of followers if they got noisier or more profane in the process. As long as they express themselves based on their inherent musical identity and their artistic soul. Or like deftones, who continued playing music that only a few will appreciate, even up to now.
But if a fat-ass metal rap band started making danceable hiphop music that you'd suddenly hear playing on a pop station, thats a clear sellout, not to mention putting some "baby-baby" into the lyrics... hahahahaha gross!
Peace sa maigo! It really helps to stick to your musical soul and EVOLVE around it, I love music!!!
