Are you advocating that kids SHOULD NOT HAVE THE PRIVILEGE to learn how early humans lived on History channel, how cheetahs hunt on animal planet, how stars behave on National geographic and how cakes are baked on food channel, because TV is only for entertainment? Or make everyone here in this forum believe that parents all over the world are paying millions to CBS, NBC, Disney, Nickelodeon for shows like Barney and Friends, Brainy Baby, Sesame Street for nothing but plain amusement?
It's okay if PBB is not skipped, Crime Channels, HBO etc. What will happen if you already instilled in their minds that it is okay to learn on TV, what will happen if you are not around and they accidentally tuned in on a parental guidance show and see something odd, what will happen next?. In India as I heard they use TV as extra effects for education, I think that would be okay for the teacher will be there all the time to oversee the educational schemes and everything shown is limited only within the context of good education. I believe education should be practiced within the confines of the school and TV's at home are for leisure, in that regard there would be a proper control in what the young ones would see and how to properly digest it.

Bro, I don't want to dig deeper on other issues. The bottomline here is that ABS-CBN and GMA both broadcast shitty programs. They're lousy, uneducational, irrational(sometimes political) and unrealistic. PBB is not leisure, it is not entertainment, it's a waste of time. If you think it's good for children to watch two 15/16 year old boys kissing and making out on nationwide Television, then you're absolutely wrong, and that's absolutly sick.

So please do not educate your kids through TV.

Wrong, you don't have the right to narrow the doors of knowledge to them. They'll learn from you as a parent, they'll learn from school, they'll learn from peers, they'll learn from magazines, from comics, from radios, from computers, and they'll always learn from Television. Please, broaden their options. Let them experience everything.

So you want GMA and ABS teach your children with those crap?.
and there are a lot of healthy options as you've mentioned, why is it that you could not omit something that is clearly unproductive.

You're not getting the whole idea. Go back to my first comment on this thread, and decipher. Poor kids don't have other options, they're left with no other program to watch except this junk. The government should subsidize TV programming, and add more educational channels on the list. So if this PBB garbage is televised every Saturday night, then they can freely switch to better channels like Nickelodeon or CCartoon Network.

So you wanted to involve the government now in creating more crap.

Some children's television shows may be bad for young kid's brains according to a new study about watching cartoons. It appears that children may not concentrate and focus very well after watching fast-paced programming.

Researchers from the University of Virginia showed 60 4-year olds a 9-minute chunk of what they call an "animated kitchen sponge" cartoon. The experts then tested the children's memory and thinking skills and compared their scores to other youngsters, who had watched a slow-paced educational cartoon or drew pictures with crayons and markers.

Bai, adding more "senseful" channels for poor people to watch is not crap. Foreign governments are doing it, but not our government. If you think programs in ABS-CBN or GMA is entertaining and not boring, think again.
If you think this PBB garbage is harmless to kids, think again. Two 16 year old boys gargling each other in front of nationwide broadcast is the sickest thing a kid can see. I understand nga taga-ABS CBN ka sa una, but you can't just defend the ugly sides of a corporation just because ex-employee ka.
Cartoons are a different issue, you might as well create a new thread for that. If cartoons were that bad, governments all over the owrld would have banned them on spot. That article has some serious arguments to tackle.
