It's just denoting trust and due perhaps of the exigency and the incapacity of the one who asks the favor but saying thank you is polite enough.

Well yeah it does sound presumptuous and I don't use it either.

Maybe for you sir but for me, the phrase "thank you in advance" SEEMS LIKE a demand from the recipient to fulfill one's request and not an expression of gratitude.

At least, that's how I feel whenever I get to read it; it may not be necessarily true to the writer or the one who wrote the request.

like what I said, naa ra lage unsaon nmo pag dawat na.. it's all up to you. it's just a statement, how you will react to it will definitely determine on how you will respond to him/her, either with a heavy heart or with pleasure. Just a piece of advice, just take it positively.

If that’s what you’re going for in your letter/email or speech then by all means use it.. I simply expressed my thoughts and how I feel about the phrase

I just pointed out on how you might handle such thing positively. Anyway, I never end any of my email "Thank you in advance", since people might hate the phrase for a couple of reasons. One is that it feels presumptuous. But on the other hand I wouldn't mind reading it from any of my colleagues, a thank you is still a thank you, better than no thank you at all.
