this story is definitely half baked.

based on this article, part of widodo's consideration to delay execution was for veloso to take part in the investigation against her recruiters. which is consistent with what DoJ was doing as they are going to jakarta to present to the indonesian authorities what they have in store for the investigation.

i highly doubt widodo will reconsider veloso's execution hadn't the recruiter surrendered themselves to the authorities.

I Agree but not Totally a Credit To Pnoy ....

The decision to postpone her execution came not necessarily after Philippine President Benigno Simeon (BS) Aquino spoke to Indonesian President Joko Widodo as some would say, but after Widodo met director of Migrant Care Indonesia Anis Hidayah hours before her scheduled execution.

yup. as a president he shouldn't take full credit if not take credit at all. but the veloso family should have acknowledged these things since their only ally is the government for now. because if widodo was truly into mercy and considerate to human rights activist then he would've have spared the Brazilian drug mule who had a mental illness.

your article and my article coincides based on these statement:

“The decision to delay the death penalty was taken after the President received a report about the legal process that is running in Philippines,” the Indonesian Cabinet Secretariat posted on its official Twitter account, a day after the Aquino administration took credit for the temporary reprieve.
“Because the legal process is still running in the Philippines , so it must be ensured Mary Jane Veloso gets justice,” the secretariat said.
murag lisud gyud ni nga investigation kay dapat apil ang malaysia ani. naay mas dakong isda nga dapat mapaksit ani ug im sure naa sa malaysia ni. kay in the first place, nganong nakalusot man ang bagahe ni veloso sa malaysian airport. im not even sure if the malaysian government is involved in this investigation.

mahulog raman pud ug kaning investigation sa recruiter ni mary jane wala ra gihapon maputol ang ulo sa sindikato kay mga puros mani sila accessories to crime. once ma convicted naning mga recruiters ug ma execute na si veloso, easily replaceable ra gihapon ni sila.naa napud mugawas lain recruiter ug drug mules. and this problem will go on and on and on.

Although I admit that I'm one of Pnoy's critics in this forum, constantly bashing some of his policies. But I also have to admit that no one could have saved Veloso except him. Not the Vice President, not the Senate, or any legal body.

No one in Indonesia has the power to summon meetings, plan reprievals and postpone executions except Widodo. In RP, nobody has the power to personally send phonecalls at any moment to ASEAN leaders except Pnoy. It was that last minute plea by Pnoy which informed Widodo about a possible syndicate involved, describing Veloso as the "clueless" mule. Then Widodo approached Hidayah.
Tony Spontana, the Indonesian attorney general’s spokesman, said Veloso’s execution had simply been “postponed due to the request of the Philippine president in relation to an alleged human trafficker who recently gave herself up in the Philippines.”

Wala ... assumption lang na nila ... but naay effort only on the last minute ... 2010 pana nga kaso gi hide sa atoang goberno ...

    Matod pang Widodo ....

"There's a letter from the Philippines [explaining about] human trafficking. It is a postponement [of the execution], not an annulment," he said.

The Jakarta Post report also said the Indonesian president denied that the decision was made because the Philippine government made a phone call minutes before the planned execution.

Veloso's execution not annulled, says Jokowi | The Jakarta Post

Jokowi denied the decision was influenced by the Philippine government via a telephone conversation minutes before the planned execution, and said he had discussed the issue with Philippine President Benigno Aquino III on the sidelines of the ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday.

Ang klaro nga Rason kini ... due to new evidence to be presented in a Philippine court. ... ug wala pa mo surrender ang recuiter bitay gihapon ...

i think this is a misunderstanding. sa akong pagsabot ana nga statement kay ang part nga gi-deny ni widodo kay ang conversation minutes before the planned execution. sa iyang second statement nga ila gyud na diay giistoryahan ni presdenti during the asean summit. so basically widodo confirmed that it was because he had a conversation with aquino regarding this issue at the asean summit.
