i have not tried that board, but have had tried Asus G41 Combo and have use both ddr2 and ddr3 on it but not at the same time.
as i have told you, DO NOT TRY DDR2 and DDR3 at the same time.
GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 775 - GA-G41M-Combo (rev. 1.3)
Memory DDR3:
2 x 1.5V DDR3 DIMM sockets supporting up to 8 GB of system memory (Note 1)
Dual channel memory architecture
Support for DDR3 1333(O.C.)/1066/800 MHz memory modules
DDR2:
2 x 1.8V DDR2 DIMM sockets supporting up to 8 GB of system memory (Note 1)
Dual channel memory architecture
Support for DDR2 1066(O.C.)/800/667 MHz memory modules
(Note: Mixed mode, populating DDR2 and DDR3 memory modules simulta- neously is not supported. Go to GIGABYTE's website for the latest supported memory speeds and memory modules.)
out of curiousity and part of experiment bisan nabasa na namo ang manual, we tried using both ddr2 and ddr3 modules on all 4 slots of that board. Effect? wa mo boot.hehehe
2 ddr2 or 2 ddr3 modules? yes na try and with no problems.
1 for my barkada and 1 each for my 2 different clients. Same mobo as yours
dili mo boot kun i-populate w/ DDR2 & DDR3 ang tanan mem slots kay lain2x man na'g timing sila. mayabag ang controller...
on LGA 775, ang mem controller kay naa sa North bridge chip set... starting from LGA 1156 to LGA 1150 and LGA 2011... ug padung pa ni's upcoming platform nila... both Intel and AMD will not go back to use the North Bridge chip set again for the mem controller function...
even on the CPU embedded mem controllers, dili pud na sila pwede dunganon ug gamit... like DDR3 & DDR4 unya kun naa'y mobo na mag carry sa ani na mga slots...
Nangutana pa nya naa diay sya kaugalingon tubag.
Moboot na uy! Pero 512mb lang mogawas. Haha!
@TS
ikaw ray nag tubag sa imong pangutana "using DDR3 ram? does it work? I plan to buy another 2GB of DDR3"
imong tubag: 2 ddr2 or 2 ddr3 modules? yes na try and with no problems.
Combo motherboards like the g41 combo gigabyte is for easy upgrade transitioning.. Para no need to buy new mobo with ddr3 support.. That is from what i understand TS.. So clearly combining both ddr2 and ddr3 won't work since it is not intended for that...
