actually it's humanity's greed for power that destroys, it alienates everything, even religion.. imagine having a gun, materially it is not destructive, but once it is placed in the hands of abusive people instantly it becomes an object of destruction, but upon the hands of peace loving people, it turns into a peacekeeping instrument.. so you see, religion cant be blamed, it's just a matter of how it is used..
