They have their own democratic system but China is reneging on a deal it made with the Brits during the handover in 1997. Hong Kong was promised UNIVERSAL suffrage, meaning voters could vote whoever they wanted to into office.

The top brass in China pretty much told the Hong Kongers to go f*ck themselves in August, as they wanted control over which candidates appeared on the ballot. And not surprisingly, these candidates had to be pro Beijing.

It's an issue that's been brewing for years, karon lang ni buto kay the PRC finally issued a statement on their intentions.

One biggest complaint from Hongkongers about Chinese mainlanders is that the latter come to Hongkong in hordes and make purchases by wholesale in groceries for baby Milk powder and Canned goods. Causing shortages for the local population.
Imagine, the entire Luzon area coming to Cebu City to buy all our grocery's milk products. Kinsay di maglagot?
