Lastly, this is sooo trivial. It's a private business for f@ckn sakes, they are free to experiment what works for their business. If it fails them, do you gain something? If it results to certain degree of success, do you lose something? If nothing changes in their business and it was after all an insignificant policy in the first place since it was just a whim of a discriminating SOB, so what? Is your life affected in anyway? Other than your misplaced sens3 of pride of being a bisaya? If thats the case, screw your shallowness. Pride is something that results from effort, not some arbitrary condition such as being born as a bisaya., filipino, chinese, whatsoever...

    Ps: to those who cite employee condition or whatever, if working in your present company makes you poorer than being unemployed, then quit and stay unemployed. Dont ask for a raise if you dont deserve it, and seek government help to force businesses to heed your demands. Length of service is pathetic reason. Productivity is what matters.
    So you confirm this is SM policy?

    I'm not even sure if this is SM mall policy, much more so SM policy.

    I think people took issue with a specific manager who is in-charge of SM Appliance Cebu. It's not even SM City Cebu which would mandate all their retailers to do the same... as well as SM store, SM supermarket, and SM cinemas. Yes, SM store is the department store and operates separately from SM appliance, and so on and so forth.

    Regardless if its true or not, if its SM or other business for that matter. I was arguing on the fundamental level of who has the right to decide what policies should be adopted for a business. The business itself or outside people?

    Short answer is : it depends.

    Businesses have to abide by City and state laws and regulations.

    For example, businesses are not supposed to discriminate the disabled, and there's this so-called "wheelchair" law. Hence, the public can protest or boycott an establishment not friendly to people with certain disabilities.

    Now, was the SM appliance manager discriminating regionally? If yes, is their a law about Manilenos diacriminating against Cebuanos, against Dabawenyos, against illonggos, etc etc? I don't know. But if somebody looked down on me because I came from a certain region, I'd be pissed.

    @fretburner:
    There you go, the public can boycott. So theres really no point in regulating discrimination. Any business have the right to discriminate, like customers have the right to discriminate against businesses as well. Whether to their benefit or ruin, thats their concern. Now, you have touched on city and state laws, most of which are useless, stupid, or problematic.

    Touching on laws complicates issues without understanding the purpose of laws. The mere existence of any law doesnt make it morally right if it violates the very function of the law, that is to protect life, liberty, and property. Every man is entitled to exercise his liberty in any way he wishes so long as it doesnt prevent others from exercising their rights. Whether the result of his liberty results to profit or ruin, that is his fate. No man has the right to infringe on another mans liberty even if it results to the latters demise.

    I will ask you again, fundamentally, who has more rights to the business. The business or outside people?

    Ps: that wheel chair law violates the rights of the business if it is as what you have posted.
