In my opinion, people can live and be successful without praying. Praying is a state of mind. Praying to any god is always healthy psychologically (spiritually). You can try not praying for 6 months and see that all should be fine. However, if you pray, you will feel better about yourself.

I believe that you should have a "religion" to feel your purpose & feel good within yourself. Choose a religion with good praying habits and a kind-hearted & humble fellow believers. A religion/doctrine that makes you feel superior among other human beings and thinks that their group is the only group who will be saved is not a good religion to be in because you will only be stressed out to make others believe that your group is the best. If there is one best group in the line of religions, it should have already made its presence felt by many without pushing people to be part of that group.
