Code Igniter programmer here.
but sad to say Code igniter will discontinue its development soon
what is is the best framework/Programming/MVC platform to choose from?
I'm thinking Laravel.
or maybe migrate to Ruby's Rails Framework.

Ruby on Rails... If kung kahibaw ka C# you can try Asp.Net MVC 5/WebAPI
codeigniter is already dead couple years ago...
base from my current research on building scallable web apps (for my startup)... ruby is not really a good solution... (i know some had scaled ruby but only few twitter is one from ruby to whatever-they-are-using-right-now)... laravel is a good candidate on my lists of possible language but i was thingking of long-term support... laravel is built using symfony components... and symfony2 has good support and it is still developed by sensiolabs... the other one is Zend
laravel is good for now since its a growing trend... samething what happen before with codeigniter... its just the hype... choose whatever you are comfortable with and not what the trend tells you...

if its community driven then there is one already before kohana... it was a fork of Codeigniter... and its even better that CI since it already supports PHP5 when CI is still PHP4... ruby, java and python(-g) are good alternative if you are aiming for long term since this 3 are application not just for web...
i hate cake... i had couple projects in cake... and i hate them all... if only i have the option to choose what to use... deym clients...

btw before i forgot there is this called PhalconPHP its a veeeery fast framework kusog pas sa mga sikat nga framework... it is made in C
@salbahis -sir share some more experience about phpcake. Gakat-on paman ko gd sa phpcake pero I heard a lot some negative feedback, I wonder unsay cons sa phpcake. Unsa imo experience boss sa cakephp.
to summarize cakephp is not user friendly (IHMO).. you need to understand whats under-hood before you can start...
my dilemma is the template system and models... despite following "official" documentation it still has huge learning curve...
unlike CI and Laravel... nga even without experience... i can start working on it... for it intend to be straight to the point...
CakePHP (no offense sa mga fanboys) are making things more complicated...
