In today's labor market a degree is only a 3rd priority

    1st is skills
    2nd is experience
    3rd is education
    4th is passion

That is only for entering the job. Moving up the corporate ladder is a different story.

Connections are good for promotions and moving up the corporate ladder.

They're not that helpful in getting you a job. No matter who your connection is, big and established companies has appropriate checks and balance in their HR practices to prevent such cases from happening.

    Daghan pa kaayog OJT ron.
Conpanies prefer OJT for basic tasks in the office.

Sometimes TS, life is the best teacher. Hatagi chance imong anak to experience what life can bring to him. In time, makita lang na niya ang iyang field of interest as long as you are there to support him. There are drop-outs and people who didn't finish schooling but end up successful. From my experience, being in the comfort of the parents domain is not a good place to grow. I've been to hell and back. I am not advocating rebellion. But it is my being a maverick in the past that taught me essential learning in life nga basin wala nako makat-onan if I did not choose the way how I live my life.

For your question, yes. But the nature of work for his academic achievement now, it will be a challenge for him. It will usually be legwork, errand works. You mentioned he is studying in the US, that may be a plus for him to land a better position than a HS graduate from a local school here in Phil. No discrimination intended.
