More players are expected to participate in the so-called Interruptible Load Program (ILP) for Luzon after the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) ordered Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) to tap any willing customer for the program and not just those with generating units.
In an order dated April 11, the ERC said “Meralco is authorized to implement the ILP to its consumers provided that the prospective Participating Customers (PCs) should not be limited to those who own generating units. Any customer who is willing to de-load should be qualified as a PC to the ILP whether replacement power shall be generated or not.”
This means that customers who are willing to shed off or de-load capacity can participate in the program.
