good point re newbie modes.
first of all, i too would recommend the D7100 as the TS has a budget of 50k. i was just waiting for the TS to reply re skill level because he might be better off with a D7k and invest the rest in a better lens, possibly an FX lens. bodies change a lot but lenses can go a long way.
second, that itch to upgrade will always be there, that's a given when it comes to hobbies. but for the most part,
starting small and stumbling along the way helps one appreciate the hobby and grow more passionate about it, as compared to taking shortcuts that feeds the flame but doesn't fuel it. i too have seen how newbies are as my photog club was founded specifically with newbies in mind. after 3 years, i noticed this trend in newbies that we helped grow, though of course there are exceptions here and there. those who did stick around are more proud of their shots taken back when their gear was humble.
a lesser resale value when upgrading of a cheaper body is better compared to the total loss when quitting.
