For me, it is either of the two:

    Nikon D7100. (Body only = 39,998.00 / with 18-105 kit = 50,898.00)

    Nikon D7000 (Body only = 30,848.00 / with 18-105 kit = 41,498.00)

    1. Brand new Nikon D7100 for around 40K

Then search in the Buy and Sell threads:
    2. Second hand Nikkor 18-55 mm for around 3.5K
    3. Second hand Nikkor 50 mm f1.8 for around 3.5K

Naa pa kay sukli para beer......

    or

You could buy a decent tripod with ballhead. Very useful in long shutter low light shots and can double as a weapon against thieves especially during night time photoshoots.

"best" is relative to skill level. you can buy the best there is in terms of specs but a month later will be frustrated by all the knobs, dials, and seemingly endless settings. best for newbies is a lot different than for someone with enough shooting experience. it's like buying a car, would you buy a ferrari because you have the money even if your driving skill is not up to it?

Yes, I would buy a Ferrari if I have the means.

To the TS: personally, get what you can afford. Apart from the 1DX's and D4s' of the DSLR world, current bodies already have Modes for beginners (Creative Auto, Program, Auto+, etc.). You will thank me later for getting the best your money can afford rather than getting a low-level camera and sell it at a loss to upgrade.

^which is exactly why so many begginers lose interest after a few months and quit. they expect too much out of their expensive gears, thinking they could get the same shots as their "masters", and when they can't they get frustrated and quit. kinda misses the point of going into photography as a hobby in the first place.

^ I also know of a lot of newbies who either a) lose interest in their entry-level bodies and sell these or b) eventually sell their entry-level bodies for a higher spec'ed body. Now YMMV, but my experience and observation from different forums with different hobbies (cars, music, photography, comics, etc.) is that we will always have the itch to upgrade or acquire stuff. A lot of money can be saved if we do our due diligence in researching for specs and knowing our budget for the purchase, which is exactly what the TS is doing.

So sure, some will suggest an entry level camera and I respect that. Personally, I say get either a Canon 70D or a Nikon D7100. Again, there are "newbie" modes on these bodies and should serve the TS well either if the skill elevates or the need to upgrade (better resale value) comes.

    good point re newbie modes.

first of all, i too would recommend the D7100 as the TS has a budget of 50k. i was just waiting for the TS to reply re skill level because he might be better off with a D7k and invest the rest in a better lens, possibly an FX lens. bodies change a lot but lenses can go a long way.

second, that itch to upgrade will always be there, that's a given when it comes to hobbies. but for the most part, starting small and stumbling along the way helps one appreciate the hobby and grow more passionate about it, as compared to taking shortcuts that feeds the flame but doesn't fuel it. i too have seen how newbies are as my photog club was founded specifically with newbies in mind. after 3 years, i noticed this trend in newbies that we helped grow, though of course there are exceptions here and there. those who did stick around are more proud of their shots taken back when their gear was humble.

a lesser resale value when upgrading of a cheaper body is better compared to the total loss when quitting.
