    naa gihapon bro.

    mathew 9:14-15

14 Then John’s disciples came and asked him, “How is it that we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples do not fast?”

15 Jesus answered, “How can the guests of the bridegroom mourn while he is with them? The time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; then they will fast.

aw imu jud diay gibasa bro..hehehe..my apologies then . thanks for reading them by the way.

anyway if you're looking for a verse in the new testament that literally talked about Fasting,
i guess Slabs already answered your question.

in the words of master spring "fasting is needed but not required" in reference to the Gospel of Matthew Chapter 4
where it talked about Jesus Fasting for 40 days and His victory over the temptations of the Evil one.
though deprived from physical food, was however boosted with Spiritual ones (which is rather important than the former, as Jesus taught that we should store more riches in heaven than eathly ones)

To store heavenly riches is to be set apart for God. now considering our humanity and our attachment to this world, plus the constant temptation of the enemy
the act might be somewhat difficult, however it is made possible through the state of being in constant communion with our Father in Heaven through Christ our Savior.

most effective way to do it aside from prayer is to remember that we are for God who is eternal and that this world is passing.
the most effective way to be in tune with what is heavenly is to abstain or refrain from earthly pleasures.
one of the many means is through fasting along with other religious discipline instilled by the Church through Sacred Traditions of the Faith.

Personally as a Catholic, a Catholic Fasts during Lent because one tries to imitate Christ not only the physical aspects of the act but hoping to have that same Spiritual boost Christ had when He fasted,
not that Jesus needed a boost but because of His humanity, He was fully aware in the reality of temptation and Sin.
the reality in what could happen to our soul if consumed by the ways of this world and since He too was Human who at the same time is in the very Nature of God when He walked this earth, He knew how the earthly things could work as a Distraction. hence set himself apart for God and maintained total obedience to the Father's will.
perhaps Jesus then was givng us an example rather than needing some spiritual boost..hehehe

well aside from the spiritual boost a faithful might get from fasting, this is also a form of preparation in remembering the Lord's Resurrection and victory over death.

Fasting can be a very effective way to contemplate on things that matters to God too,
that's why fasting is not only done during lent.

so we now know that Fasting is not instituted by Christ unlike Baptism as suggested by the links i posted before, therefore fasting is not a sacrament.
however it is inspired by the works of Christ in matters of spiritual discipline as written in the Scriptures. Christ fasted in preparation for something, so did His Apostles. therefore as part of the Catholic Faith and Tradition, then so shall we.

Fasting then is not entirely required especially if not convicted in doing so as the act itself would have gone in vain.
but it is best observed with right intentions of the Faith and can be very essential
in reminding ourselves about the things that matters most.

some go for forty days as Jesus did.. some go for just abstinence from certain pleasures while some would just eat bread for a certain period of time
some follow the Catholic practice along with other Catholics..(not eating meat.pork every wednesday and friday from Ash wednesday until easter)
    some don't even fast..

point is, what matters bro is the intention.

One can Fast for forty days and follow every religious practice there is but missed the very purpose of the said acts
while one does not necessarily follow a specific format in fasting but pleased God all the way..

for us Catholics bro, we believe that whatever has been instituted by the Church as far as religious practice and discipline are concerned is the process God revealed to us through scripture and tradition
so naturally we are to follow how it is laid over but we are not restricted from personal convictions when it comes to fasting.
as how it was written: "God sees and looks through the heart".

tungod kay lahi ug time scale sa unang panahon bro..like jews back then consider 6AM sa atong oras karun as the start of a new day
while it is 12am for us. or Jews count the months by the moon pud..

kanang 3pm i believe is a convertion from Jewish time to the time scaling(divisions of time) we now know of..
same thing with Sunday as the Lord's day of resurrection.. as it was written,Jesus rose on the third day for them(jewish time scale)
but technically if sa atoang time scaling wala pa niabut ug exactly 3 days.

but atoa man dapat sundon kung unsay nasuwat at least duol2x sa actual happenings mao muingon ta on the third day he rose again(nagbase sa Jewish Time Scaling) unya magcelebrate ta less than 72 hours sa resurrection ni Jesus(which is sunday kadlawun from 3pm friday)

Hope wa ra ka nisamot ka libog sa akong explanation.. LOL
