The a4 5300 and other A series are designed to combine graphics AND processor into a pretty effective affordable platform, but he is somewhat stuck with it once he gets it. I didnt rebut your post, i'm simply saying he has a better upgrade head room if he takes on the AM3+ path. Still a choice. Assuming he will want the systems fully capable of gaming, the a4's onboard gpu will limit this. Again, as i said before, if OP really wants to have low electric bills, ivy celeron or pentium still the way to go. He can even go with a sempron and unlock it to a dual core athlon if he goes to the AM3+ path.
