wala ko ka try ug 'server' for small business

naka buhat ko ug server kay mu-'serve' man ko pag naa LP dinhi sa DCWired.net

first server nako was a e6700, asus commando, win7 64bit; grabe kaayo ang lag kay hurot sa leeching through 2 lan port; Dili na makabrowse.

then nag try ko ug gamit WHS which was good, leeching was serve no problem.

naa lang ko gipalit na 3ware 12sata port controller kay nakulang na ang sata ports sa mobo.

1.) When leeching gwapo jud kung 1gb imong network backbone.
2.) Proc = don't need to be new, 1/2 cores are good as long as file server. Kung other server type siya (DB, Web, Multimedia) need more cores.
    3.) Memory = the more the better; sa akoa experience kay katong nag test ko 4gb vs 8gb sa whs;
4.) GPU = no need (kay dili man ka mag-games dinhi)
5.) LAN = Intel 4port gigalan (pirte lang ka mahal) (used only realtek 2port gigalan)
pic sa akoa hdds/controller (kay basig dili ko tuuohan, daghan baya mga trollers)

@[-erick-] - pila palit ninyo ani na controller

  8. #48
So let's say 4 SATA 3GBps devices on a controller sa PCI slot. I will copy 4 files simultaneously on the 4 drives, dili ba mahurot ang bandwidth sa PCI lane? Shared man diba or the controller has some kind of logic/cache/memory para ani?

@werty : limot na ko kung pila palit nako ebay. i think around 150-200$ ata ni. (2008 ata nako gipalit ni)
@Rainerius: So far wala prob man leeching all lanes; multiple PC. speed 80-100MBps = each hdd (sa lan na lang prob kay kung more than 10users = leeching goes = 2gbps/10 (mura ug 200mbps each leeching instance)
@nodols3: You do the math, got 4 2tb (3 green, 1 sg) 6 1 tb (2samsung, 2 wd black, 2 wd green) 2 500gb (but on external esata enclosures) when i bought the hdd's at the height of the prices pa sila.

sad to say yung 2tb green ko RMA to WD (puro 1080p pa sana laman num)

used old system for my server (headless) no need monitor, kb, mouse after setup of the WHS. RDC lang when configuring/copying.

Dali lang setup sa Server... pagbalay lang man ni... so no 'mission critical' data need to be redundant. (Ang files nako nacopy man pud sa mga taga DCWired.net pips when we do LP so if ever mamatayan man ko ug hdd; recopy lang pag LP)

I could have created RAID 10,5 etc but didn't because its more expensive. Kung naay musponsor nako ug HDD pwede pa siguro.

5.) LAN = Intel 4port gigalan (pirte lang ka mahal) (used only realtek 2port gigalan) (update sa previous post nako)

    - rationale = the more ports you have the better you can serve.

    tested used only 1 gigalan = 10 leechers 1gbps/10, 2 gigalan = 10 leechers 2gbps/10
