    Default home photo printing questions

    maayung adlaw fellow istoryan photographers,

i was looking for a thread on photo printing but all i see are ads didtu sa buy/sell section. i want us to discuss on the art and and share techniques here

many of us love to shoot. most of our pics go to social media sites, only a few of us actually print our outputs..

due to the nature of my subjects (confidentiality), i find it practical to print descreetly. i know some of you people here have experience on home based photo printing..

    my questions are:
1.) what is the best value-for-money A3 photo printer available? im currently torn between buying epson t1100 or canon ipx6560 (wala ko nagchoose sa brother cause cassete type man ilaha, in my experience, medu dili kaau reliable)

2.) unsa ka nindut ang printout if mag gamit ta continuous ink system? plus tinood ba nga mka daot ni sa ato printers? (or depende sa brand, if yes, kinsa naa ma recommend nindut?)

3.) how much operating cost and how much you charge for printing (pila ROI?) and unsa style if ipackage apil sa photography?

4.) how do you set your laptop para ang imu makita sa imu screen kung mag postprocess, duol2x sa mugawas sa printer?

as of now, mao ra ako ma ask nga questions. pls post more if naa sab inu mga pangutana..

sa ako experience right now, im using canon pixma mp287, CDR-king photopaper.. so far, nice man output. though kind of dark lang compared to how it appears in my computer lcd screen at middle brightness

Kng ROI imng main concern I think you better go to reliable Labs. kai mas gasto imng print at home kay sa magpa develope ka. cost of Photo paper alone is expensive plus your printer ink. you don't want to use cheap materials for your clients don't you?

Nakapangutana sd ko ani before... but after weighing cost and productivity I decided to have my prints in the Lab. kai not only they are consistent in prints I can get discounts on other Items like canvas, photo books other stuffs, etc. nga pwede nko mahatag sa clients as add ons.
Dili rman gd basta mka shoot nta hatagan dayon nto atong clients ug say, 50 prints of 4X6. you have to give 'em Albums or Large Prints to maximized your profit. only Labs can offer that bro...

But if you really would like to learn print at home. you can start Calibrating your monitor and your Printer - there is a good source of info sa CretiveLive about ani nga topic where the Pro really teach you well. naay bayad to nga course bt you will not regret the info there..

I hope my info help you.

creativelive, got it. tnx for this one.

i was thinking of going to labs, but the issue is "being discreet", i just need to print maybe 3 to 4 A3 sized borderless pics. its the kind of pics nga ang clients dili gusto naa lain mka kita or will be placed on the private parts of their bedroom, or pics they really want to be shot in but cant afford somebody else to see it (some people are wierd, hehe). dako2x man sab net profit from these kind of pics.. maybe after 10 to 15 prints (optimistic estimate), mka bawi na sa baratohon nga A3 printer + ink..

in my experience, low quality ra kaau ang gamit tarps for wide format, nindut jud mga dagko nga photopaper. wala sab ko sa idea nga mo go into mass printing business, i dont think i need to personally print 50pcs of 4x6, maybe mga 5 to 12 a month ra guro for A3 printing, maybe less than 20 4x6 per month. plus i also need the wide printer for other office purposes. hehe..

for printers, bati au gamit anang cassete type feeder, ma damage ang photopaper, specially kadto mga sensitive au..

ask yourself lng bro how often do you really go large sa printing? para asa ang use gud nimo primarily.. like photography sayang if mag invest ka ug tele nya landscape diay ang hilig.. di buh?

naka gamit ko ug epson nga L800 straight shoot from to the printer nindot ang gawas.. a few months ago naka hapit ko ug convention then it happens nga naai epson so ni ask around ko about sa ilang uban nga model with continious ink with sample pics are quite nice.

if 4R or 5R nga prints, I think mas costly ang mga ingon ani nga printers and bunog kaayo sila.. naai mga dedicated nga specialty printer nga ang cost per print would be at P15 the most per pic, naa ko na kit.an gi baligya sa Photoshop and F8 (I'm not sure sa Macys) maybe you might want to check it.

para sigurado I think spyder nag offer sila ug whole set nga maka calibrate ka from camera to print, if it's a little too much a simple calibration device would help a lot! Although katong time nga nag shoot mi with the L800 purag wa man tingale toh gi calibrate ang monitor sa laptop.. but ang camera namo (sa photogs) amo gi calibrate with a grey card and prabuyag gwapo ra pud ang gawas.. altough it was a little redish sa monitor but ang print was perfect.

yey. i was wait for this kind of reply. im looking up reviews on L800 because you mentioned it. do you remember the model sa epson? hmmmm.. spider, very interesting.. mag research ko. hehe

i have a smaller printer for 4r and 5r. the reason is i think it prolongs the A3 printer (which is expensive compared to A4 printers).

i wont be printing directly to printer. post-processing is a very important part of the line. so dont really need a direct to printer connection.

for large printing. maybe 5 to 12 pics a month cguro.. but other than that, i have documents that really needed to be printed on large printers.. so business with pleasure hehehehe. ako pics nga iprint (for large printer) kay kana bitaw ipang frame sa mga clients tapos i bitay somewhere sa balay nila. so mao na ang intended use.

d man jud ko motoo anang kailangan jud mahal au gear for photography, as long as it gets the job done (thanks to photo editing software ), ok na.. but i would agree nga kailangan jud ta certain properties of paper, ink, protection, kay mao gud na ato final output.. for printers.. i dont think fast printers is a requirement for me right now.. as long as fine lang jud iya nozzle. (accuracy over speed)

pls share more on your experience on printing photos

labs are great! especially taga.an ta ug photographer's discount ang need for a printer ma diminish pero be aware nga ang labs purag thumb print... praehas sila pero lahi.. like this lab is yellowish and some labs are blueish, some are a little dark then some kay a little bright then if lain ang ma gawas lisod. dako tabang ang monitor calibration device, ang ako gi gamit ron kay ang huey pro and the white balance kay grabe ka strict when shooting... at least this way if naa ka suki pwede ra ka mag tweak para ma kuha ang imu gusto but every now and then yes magnita ko ug printer. I love the control nga ikaw gud maka buot and adjust mismo para ma kuha ang perfect print.

unsa nga printer ako kuha.on if ever mo consider ko ug printer? (you might ask) like I said I'd go for Canon or Epson. Kita ko sa print sa Canon pag sinulog and some exhibits and yes nindot siya. Epson kita pud ko sa ilang print outs which are very nice and mismo naka try pud ko.

for the printer size A4 will do for now pero if ma kaya ang A3+ why not? if I need larger prints naai special lab did2 sa forum nah maka print.

Continious ink or not? hmm mas cost effective ang continious ink pero saddly wa pa ko ka kita ug A3 nga continous and forget about ipa convert nimo sa third party.. so far Epson ra man ang ako na kahibaw.an nga naai continious ink at a very reasonable rate (around P300+ for a big bottle if I'm not mistaken) pero A4 lng

ambot oie unsa na ni ako gi yaw2x.. hahaha! if naa ka pangutana post lang I'll try to share unsa

    i hope that helps

im just wondering.. tinuod ba jud nga mga daot sa printer ang 3rd party continous ink system? conflicting ang opinions sa mga tao. naa uban mo ingon nindut. naa uban bati.. ive seen some printouts, ok man sab,, but i dunno if brand dependent or not.. sakit lang jud mawala ang warranty.. same ta choices canon n epson. torn between canon 6560 or epson t1100.. hehe.
