A HUSBAND shot his wife last Wednesday during an argument that was caused by the man’s failure to open the door promptly.
Anna May Labrador, 23, died from a gunshot wound in the left chest. She was declared dead on arriving at the Minglanilla District Hospital.
Labrador came home around 10 p.m. after attending the birthday party of her older brother, Froilan, and got angry when William, her husband, did not immediately open their front door.
William claimed that he was asleep and didn’t hear his wife’s calls.
PO2 Nikki Carlo Plarisan of the Minglanilla Police Station said that during the argument, William fetched a .357 pistol that he claims was owned by a dead uncle.
Gun
William told the police that he pointed the gun at Anna May to scare her. Husband and wife reportedly grappled with the gun, which went off.
A bullet hit Anna May in the chest, while another grazed William’s left forearm.
William, 25, said he was sorry. He said his wife’s scolding made him lose his temper but he did not mean to kill her.
William is detained at the police station.
But Anna May’s relatives want to file charges against William, who allegedly has a violent streak.
One of Anna May’s brothers, Jerome, said he saw the incident and he was the one who brought his sister to the town’s district hospital.
Alicia Bastatas, Anna May’s mother, said her daughter and William fought often over allegations that both of them have lovers. Their arguments often led to violence, she added.
Bastatas said she will file a case against William. She disallowed him to come near his children, one of whom—a four-year-old boy—reportedly saw the shooting.
Police brought William to the Regional Crime Laboratory to have him undergo a paraffin test to determine if he fired a gun.
