[MENTION=182673]jhongardz[/MENTION]; For keyboard, you can try this Gingerbread Keyboard. It's probably not the actual keyboard from GB, but it seems to imitate it really well. You could also try other third party keyboards. For memo widgets, give Color Note a try.

Well, those experts are wrong. Rooting has nothing to do with making your phone prone to viruses. What they probably mean is that users who root their phones are more likely to sideload apps indiscriminately, and some of those apps may be malware. Maybe the malware might be able to use elevated (superuser) permissions to do their dirty work, but I find that unlikely. A rooted phone, IMHO, is just as likely to get viruses as an unrooted phone. So it's all the same.

Is there a benefit to rooting your phone? Absolutely. I've got an LG Optimus One (P500) -- it's a pretty old phone -- but I'm running CM 9.2 Ice Cream Sandwich on it, and it's rock solid stable. I've even managed to get Jellybean (CM 10.1) complete with Google Now (minus the voice features, though) running on this phone, and only switched back to ICS because JB was a bit of a battery hog. Now compare that to the official Optimus One which only goes as high as Gingerbread. If I didn't root my phone, I wouldn't have been able to upgrade it.

Are there risks to rooting? Well, yes. Rooting my phone was no problem (the instructions for my phone's model were easy), but I softbricked my phone for a couple of days when I tried to flash a new ROM. I was using a Linux PC at the time and the instructions I used were for Windows, so maybe that was the problem. Still, I was able to revive it myself without having to go to a repair center. It won't always be that easy, though. Some phones (like Samsung) are very sensitive to flashing and could brick easily. If you've got such a phone, you'll want to have a USB jig handy in case you'll need to revive your phone if things go wrong. If you don't have a USB jig, you could buy or make one, or borrow one (there's a network of people who're willing to lend their jigs; hit me up if you need one and I'll try to get you in contact with a few I know). Anyway, there's always risks, but as long as you read ahead and are prepared, then rooting your phone should be as easy as cake. Oh, and I strongly recommend reading the XDA Developers Forum (find the forum for your phone's model) before attempting anything. It's the best resource for anything Android.

In computer terms, that would be like giving you administrator access to your PC. Since your phone is already rooted, there's no need to root it again. What you want, based on your question, is to put an ICS or JB rom on your phone (a "ROM", in this case, is analogous to an OS distribution).

Anyway, CM10.1 (JB) stable has just been released for the Optimus One, but I personally wouldn't recommend it if you're a heavy user of wifi or 3g (as I am) since the battery drains pretty quickly. There's also the issue of the system partition being a little bit too small, and though their are workarounds, it's a rather more involved process. If you want a newer Android OS on your phone, I would recommend CM9.2.2 (ICS) from hephappy. It's super stable and bug free. Just download the ROM, put it your sdcard and flash it via recovery. If you don't know what I'm talking about, get the guy who rooted the phone to help, or contact me via PM either here or on XDA.
